Any Techs about? Is there any adware/spyware on MN???

I have been having real problems with Adware/spyware loading onto my machine, having removed all the programmes with Spyware Doctor (and imunized the machine) and running Norton etc they keep coming back. Basically MN is just about the only site I visit, the Mothercare ad sometimes causes problems with my machine at times it comes up across the screen where it shouldn't be and I get a message telling me that something is trying to install and do I want to block it.

I have told my DH I'm sure it's nothing to do with MN but it's driving him nuts as I need my computer for work and three times this week he has spent ages trying to rid it of these things.

I'm not jealous.

Or are you saying I look like Shrek? (I do, but I don't want too many other people knowing )

No WWB you don't look like Shrek, he loves a princess and is 'sweet' I could not comment on Secur looking like the rear end of a Donkey though

Thanks Tech (and everyone else who is obviously more technically minded than me ). I will show your explanation to DH, I knew it wasn't MN!

We are pretty careful and Kazaa is on the list of 'do not visit' websites as my DH had loads of trouble after using it. I know he has mentioned Mozilla before but I don't think he was keen on it (although can't remember his reasoning). In the end I think my DH did end up taking the programmes off manually and so far everything seems to be fine.

Hope you get your spellchecker Bunglie, although I agree Coddy shouldn't use it!

Spyware and annoying pop ups and silly mouse icons are all over the Net. I know you might see annoying pop-ups whilst visiting MN, but this will be purely coincidental.

The best way to stop it ? Keep your antivirus software up to date. Download the latest service pack / fixes for your operating system. Run a firewall on your PC / router. Scan regularly for spyware.

One of the better programs for Windows users is Ad-Aware Personal from Lavasoft .

It is free and they update the spyware definitions regularly.

Oh, and you could always move to an Apple Mac: the hardware looks great, the software is stable ,and for all intents and purposes it is virus and spyware free. A delight to use
