Disable Ad Blocker nightmare!

TulipTiptoer · 10/04/2025 20:15

Can MNHQ help? I get continual pop ups saying DISABLE AD BLOCKER. It will happen every time I click somewhere on MN, and after about 3 times when I 'proceed without disabling' it will block me from doing anything, and just says in the pop up 'contact support' which I have done but not heard anything.

My Ad Blocker is disabled... it says this....

You’ve configured AdBlock to remain paused on this site for every visit.

I'm not sure what more I can do?

I use laptop and Chrome.

I'm also getting them constantly on my mobile through Google.

sashh · 11/04/2025 05:47

I'm getting them too, but then I use an add blocker.

TulipTiptoer · 11/04/2025 07:06

I would understand it if I had not disabled my ad blocker but I have. And it shows as disabled on the ad blocker site

I had this trouble yesterday but today seems OK!

TulipTiptoer · 11/04/2025 07:12

I am on a tablet at the moment and not a problem but it's when I go on my laptop, fingers crossed it's okay this morning

Hi @TulipTiptoer sorry to hear you're having this issue - it sounds very frustrating.

Here are a few things you could try:

  • Update both Chrome and Ad Block to the latest version
  • Sometimes, outdated or corrupted data can cause issues. Clearing your browser's cache and cookies might help
  • Ensure that no other Chrome extensions are interfering. Sometimes, extensions like antivirus software or privacy tools can block ads. To check, go to Chrome's menu > More Tools > Extensions, and disable any that might block ads.

Do please let us know how you get on.

JoMumsnet · 11/04/2025 13:51

Oh, and a couple of other things we've thought of!

  • It's worth checking if you have any ad blocking enabled on your router
  • and also worth checking if any anti virus software you're running may have ad blocking enabled

Thanks!

Thank you!

I had had an update of my anti virus software and for some reason it had a browser 'safeguard' enabled. I tried disabling that and it seems to be all OK now! I've been back and forth on 10 topics and no 'disable ad blocker' message!
Phew!

Ah, that's great news. Thanks for letting us know Smile

I'm getting this message all the time on my phone and desktop out of the blue. I've been using MN for decades and haven't changed any of my settings and I don't have an ad blocker. I've followed all the instructions to remove it but as it's not there anyway ... any tips please? It's come totally out of nowhere. I'm using Safari on iPhone and iMac.

MerryForever · 23/07/2025 18:51

Sometimes it says I can proceed without disabling but sometimes it doesn't give that option.

I'm getting this too

It’s pretty irritating.

Hi all,

To help us troubleshoot, we’d really appreciate it if you could let us know the following -

  1. What browser are you using to access the site?

  2. Do you have any of the following installed:

Ad blockers:

  • Adblock
  • Adblock Plus
  • uBlock Origin / uBlock Origin Lite
  • Adguard Extension
  • Adremover
  • Ultrablock
  • Malwarebytes Browser Guard

Privacy/tracking extensions:

  • Ghostery
  • Privacy Badger
  • Disconnect
  • Firefox Tracking Protection
Other extentions:
  • Adguard
  • DuckDuckGo
  • VeePN

If you're not sure, you can usually check by looking at your browser's extensions/add-ons list.

Thanks in advance - your replies will really help us figure out what might be triggering the issue so that we can get to the bottom of it.

I’m using Safari on an iPhone. I don’t have any of those things.

took me a few hours to get back on here to reply!

MerryForever · 25/07/2025 06:16

Sometimes I get this message which means I can read without disabling the ad blocker. I got do to go through all my phone settings (he’s more techy) and I definitely don’t have any of the things on the list. No extensions for Safari at all in fact.

Do I mean, not do.

MerryForever · 25/07/2025 06:17

Dp!

braggingaboutbrasize · 25/07/2025 08:13

I've tried in both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome on a PC, still happens. I also don't have any of those installed

MerryForever · 25/07/2025 11:21

I've tried Firefox and Chrome. Same problem. When I use Mumsnet now on my desktop iMac, I have to sign in constantly. It doesn't remember me at all any more. AND I get the disable Adblock thing even though I have no Ad Blocks!!!

I'm thinking of moving to Reddit ... there are lots of interesting discussions and topics there and this is a bit too frustrating. It's sad because I started reading Mumsnet back in 2002 when dd was first born.

Any suggestions, MN HQ?

HebeMumsnet · 30/07/2025 10:38

For anyone still having this issue could you let us know if you have any other antivirus softwares installed?

MerryForever · 30/07/2025 14:21

I’m still having problems. Less on my phone now but on my desktop I have issues and have to login every time too
