... but please, please, please can you put a stop to posters posting pictures of their genitals?

OP posts:
PennyKitchen · 15/02/2025 14:17

Hopefully. I remember someone posted a really gross graphic photo of their wide open vagina showing absolutely everything and MNHQ came onto the thread and told us all off for calling the OP out.

Meecrowahvey · 15/02/2025 14:25

They need to stop the poo in nappy pictures too. There is no need to post such things and I'm pretty sure 90% it's some weirdo pervert.

BIWI · 15/02/2025 14:26

Absolutely agree @Meecrowahvey

OP posts:
Lemsipper · 15/02/2025 14:26

Yep and Child abuse images were posted last night again at 2am

RainingRoses · 15/02/2025 14:28

I’d rather they do better at stopping images of child sex abuse uploaded on their site. That’s now two nights it’s happened in the space of a week or so.

Equally the 'What is this discharge?' type of photos.... see your doctor ffs.

BIWI · 15/02/2025 14:49

@Lemsipper and @RainingRoses I'm very aware of that - and because of it, MNHQ suspended the ability to post pictures, in the early hours of this morning, after they'd deleted the CSA images.

But already we can post pictures again. Presumably MNHQ believe they've sorted out the issue?

Now, it would seem, is an opportunity to also stop people posting pictures of their genitals.

BeckyAMumsnet · 15/02/2025 15:09

Hi @BIWI the issue here wasn't images being uploaded, it was links posted from an external site that allowed a preview of the image here. Turning off images would not have prevented this and since the image itself was never hosted by us, it did not go through our AI filters. We've since taken steps to prevent this.

In light of what has happened, we've decided to no longer allow any of the 'medical opinion', etc, images you've described. Thanks very much for your input.

Efacsen · 15/02/2025 15:10

I also don't want to see the contents of

womens pants
sanitary towels
toilets
babys nappies

If nothing else it attracts trolls and perverts

BIWI · 15/02/2025 15:10

Thank you @BeckyAMumsnet - yes, I've read the updates about the images coming via links, so good to know that we can upload pictures safely. (At least let's hope so ...)

And thank you very much for confirming people can no longer post pictures of their bits and pieces!

OP posts:
MakeYourOwnMusicStartYourOwnDance · 15/02/2025 15:17

Why even have the photo option anyway?!
Why on earth would you post photos of intimate body issues on here anyway, to a massive international public forum?!
We're not all medical professionals, go speak to your doctor instead! Far too many weirdos out there.

Just seen this bit, and glad you (apparently) can't do that anymore
Don't think it was a good idea in the first place though.

27Maisie27 · 15/02/2025 15:48

My GP wouldn’t be impressed if I sent her a photo of my lady parts, instead of making an appointment to discuss whatever the issue may be. It’s a weird kind of exhibitionist behaviour, like Bianca Censori, only worse.

iluwn · 15/02/2025 17:52

Good decision.
Some common sense at last.
I suspect a lot of those intimate pictures seeking a medical opinion were posted by non-genuine posters and even if some of the posters were genuine, they are providing images for perverts to look at.

LindorDoubleChoc · 16/02/2025 10:17

I don't want to be sour about this decision because of course it is welcome, but it would have been nice if HQ had listened to those of us protesting about dodgy photos a long time ago.

Yes. And the “implantation bleeding”/period ones. Came across one last week when I was eating my dinner. Wasn’t even a warning in the title 😫

Hurrah! No indecent images of children or fanny pics.

You'd have to be absolutely mad to think those were of medical help.

MyBeloved · 16/02/2025 22:08

So, have pictures and also preview pics from links now been banned? May I suggest that this would be the most sensible course of action given the circumstances.

I don't like it at all and am fortunate enough to not have seen images. But I can imagine how horrible it was for others.

Well then are you able to remove 'preview' function and only allow the link itself?

whatwouldyoudoifisangoutofkey · 17/02/2025 07:44

@wandawaves i think they have.

BeckyAMumsnet · 15/02/2025 12:25
We have passed the latest information on to the police this morning and of course will continue to do all we can to assist. Just to reiterate, the attacker did not upload an image directly to our site - they posted a link to an external website. That site then provided a preview of the image, which was automatically displayed. Since the image itself was never hosted by us, it did not go through our AI filters. We have taken steps to prevent this from happening again.

I agree with this. Even with a thread warning it's gross. I know you don't have to click but it does surely encourage weirdos to the site.

catin8oots · 17/02/2025 08:08

There's a thread started in the early hours of this morning with a picture of a shitty nappy 🤮

Fucks sake can't they just visit GP? Is this totally beyond them?

This is 100% NOT a medical clinic

Will you do that through AI or will you need those posts reporting?
