Do we really want a site for parents to be littered with adverts for tacky see through lingerie and sex toys? Really?

You should have seen the billboards outside their head office at one point:

"annsummers.cum"

I kid you not!

Needmorelego · 06/02/2025 18:59

Adverts are usually based on your algorithms of what else you have been looking at online.
I personally haven't seen any Ann Summers adverts.

Janiie · 06/02/2025 19:40

Me neither I'm getting booking. com and argos.
Many parents do use sex toys and see through lingerie op, Ann Summers isn't that bad. Maybe your dp has been ordering you something for Valentines Day Grin.

PickAChew · 06/02/2025 19:48

I'm just getting heated airers and sewing machines.

Edited

Judge the exciting lives we lead by what ads we are subjected too. I've just had a sensible trouser one too (for walking purposes I hasten to add, no elastic waists just yet).

Blarn · 06/02/2025 19:57

Yeah, argos, Seasalt clothes and mid century furniture here. Adverts are based on your browsing history. Or people on your WiFi?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/02/2025 20:13

I’m the only one who uses the laptop and I definitely haven’t been looking at anything like that. I’d be surprised if anyone else in the house is. I thought MN showed paid advertising? It’s only on here that I’m seeing them.

Why not? I'm still up for a bit of fun!
Mind you these days, I use LoveHoney as I can use my Blue Light Discount card

SaltyPig · 06/02/2025 23:17

The only adds I get are Mama's and Pappas.

BIWI · 06/02/2025 23:18

That's why adblocker is a good idea @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie!

Viviennemary · 06/02/2025 23:22

Whe I first saw these adverts on here I was astounded that a parenting site would feature porn.

JudgeBread · 06/02/2025 23:26

Because of course once you become a mother you may never orgasm again and must only wear sensible giant cotton underpants that come up so high they tickle the underside of your tits.

Ads are chosen for you based on your own online activity and browsing from the data you accept Mumsnet skimming from your device when you accept cookies.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/02/2025 06:59

It’s nothing to do with being a prude. It’s that I assume some people scroll whilst young children are around and might not want to explain why the lady’s ‘dress’ is see through.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/02/2025 07:03

Yes yes once you become a mother you must abstain from that beastly business, wear only navy cotton briefs and shudder Inwardly at any hint of s*x

This made me chuckle 😂

Op, they're absolutely right - ads are tailored to your algorithm and I also have seen zero Ann Summers adverts....

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/02/2025 07:06

Oh don’t be ridiculous. I’ve made it perfectly clear that is not my point.

OP posts:
Harvestmoon49 · 07/02/2025 07:06

Shame, as I'm not adverse to a sex toy and nice pants for a night away with dh

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/02/2025 07:07

My algorithm is The Guardian, BBC food and the book threads on Mumsnet. All shocking stuff, I admit.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie
Ridiculous?
People are just explaining how it advertising & algorithms works?

Just because you now feel a bit of a dick and/or didn't get the response you were looking for, doesn't make any poster 'ridiculous'

Except it's not?
Because you're seeing adverts for sex toys and lingerie, which lots of us aren't 😂

ObliviousCoalmine · 07/02/2025 07:10

How do you think we became parents in the first place 🧐

TethersMiddle · 07/02/2025 07:13

It often depends whether you're getting personalised ads or not. I used to refuse to have personalised ads because it meant they were tracking what I was viewing online, but then I saw that I got much more explicit ads (same with the children when they went online). Can't win with adverts.

Sherararara · 07/02/2025 07:13

Gosh shocking. I wish I got something like that. As with pp I get the same old repetitive crap.
I wonder who has been looking at what on your laptop….

TethersMiddle · 07/02/2025 07:18

I don't know why little think they're being oh so clever. If there op doesn't want to see them, then she shouldn't be mocked. Childish.

JohnofWessex · 07/02/2025 07:59

On another site far far away I got Red Diesel (What farmers boaters etc use with no duty paid) Ukranian Women and care homes, all at the same time.

One ad here was for Lovehoney with two women on it so that was definitely very very wrong!
