Reactions by 'Anonymous user' - how?

Garlicnorth · 13/01/2025 00:46

A couple of reactions to my posts have come up attributed to Anonymous user. What's the significance? I'm assuming it can't be a member name as it's got a space in it, and surely that wouldn't be available anyhow.

An explanation would be welcome!

Can you react when not logged in maybe?

POTC · 13/01/2025 00:49

Ignore that, just checked and it said I had to login to react

Garlicnorth · 13/01/2025 01:17

Actually, it seems some may be able to. I've just been pointed to this thread: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/site_stuff/5244366-emoji-reacts-from-anonymous-users

Have to say I don't care if I'm being laughed at by random visitors. It's just slightly unsettling and I would like to know how it happens.

Emoji reacts from Anonymous users | Mumsnet

Why is this enabled? Are people who aren't logged in able to 'react'? I'm getting laugh emojis from anonymous user/s. Doesn't bother me, but I can...

If MNHQ can't fix the weakness straight away, perhaps they should change the default attribution to 'Random troll' 😉

  1. User signs up to MN
  2. They do not have a username because they have not posted yet
  3. They can react, however
  4. This shows up as anonymous user

Simple solution would be if you don't have a username, you can't react.

Kimmeridge · 13/01/2025 01:22

Surely you have to select a user name when you sign up

It's this.

Users don't have to create a username until they want to post for the first time.

Morning @Garlicnorth. Thanks for getting in touch. It is as others have explained here. We're looking into a few different issues with the new reactions. We don't have a solution right now but this is being discussed among a few other options and we'll update as soon as there is news.

I second your default change to Random Troll. If they are going to laugh at our posts then I want the same amusement back.

Yes just had this so not fixed yet
