Emoji reacts from Anonymous users

ArabellaScott · 04/01/2025 08:25

Why is this enabled? Are people who aren't logged in able to 'react'?

I'm getting laugh emojis from anonymous user/s.

Doesn't bother me, but I can imagine it might be upsetting, especially if someone is posting when fragile or seeking support.

But anyway, you might like to look at this.

That's weird @ArabellaScott

Whyherewego · 04/01/2025 09:27

But all reactions are anonymous.? As in you don't know who reacted you just get told.someone did

WhimsicalGubbins76 · 04/01/2025 09:30

I don’t understand what you mean? When you get a notification that someone reacted, the notification itself usually says “someone” reacted to your post. But if you to your post and click on the reaction emojis, it then comes up with the list of peoples usernames. Some people have a username that’s says “anonymous” because that’s the username they chose.

No you can’t “react” if you’re not logged in

No they are not. If you click on the react button it lists the names of posters who have reacted.

I do find the 'anonymous poster' a bit odd though but I assume they are logged in and a member, just nameless.

No they're not? You can click on them and see who reacted and how.

APushbikeNamedReluctance · 04/01/2025 09:33

What label is given to a person who isn't logged it? Is it just blank in the list of usernames of those who have reacted?

pizzaHeart · 04/01/2025 09:34

I had anonymous reactions a few times and was a bit surprised. Then I decided that maybe it’s a premium feature and not everyone was signed up for this ?

Hope MN team will come up to this thread and explain.,

I did not know this! Thanks!

It comes up like this - screenshot attached.

I stand corrected op. I have no idea how someone has done that-and that username, with the space between words, does not exist.
Ive just gone through the settings and there’s no option to react anonymously.

Perhaps it’s a “premium” feature?
I wait with baited breath for MNHQ to let us know 🤣

Notonyourjelly · 04/01/2025 09:53

I've had this too, and wondered how and why?

JC03745 · 04/01/2025 09:57

@MNHQ- Any one in your team know the answer?

JJZ · 04/01/2025 11:31

I’m sure I’ve read this before with “thanks” and it was the user being logged in just without a username.

Wendysfriend · 04/01/2025 11:42

You have to be logged in to react.

I'd say what happened is someone changed their user name to 'anonymous user'

No username comes up on Advanced search.

ArabellaScott · 04/01/2025 11:45

And you can't have a username with a space, anyway.

How can you be logged in without a username?

TwattyMcFuckFace · 04/01/2025 11:50

I wonder if that poster got banned and all their posts removed, and so their name was also removed from the reaction?

I agree it's weird.

This was mentioned in the recent Left Handed thread. We tend to have the cursor on the LH side of the screen and can trigger the 'react' unintentionally. For all the other buttons you have to do an extra step, but you can activate the 'react' without meaning to.

The button doesn't know if you did it by accident, why would that show as anonymous?

Rosesgrowonyou · 04/01/2025 14:33

I think MNHQ explained before that is was posters who are logged in without a username. I always thought you had to have a username as a member though. But it seems you don't.

Right. I didn't even realise it was possible to log in without a username.

However it's being done, it can be, is being, and will be used as a form of petty abuse.

Ooooh come out and show yourself the Anonymous user who just reacted to my last comment. 🤣
