Peculiarity with notifications

When I get a notification about someone posting on a thread, in some forums the link will take me straight to the new post, but in others it will go to the top of the current page, which is illogical and annoying, especially when it's already a long page. Is there any reason this happens? Can it be fixed?

Hi @Catsmere. Could you send us a couple of examples of threads this is happening with? If you don't want to post them here, perhaps just hit the report button on your post above and paste the thread links into the report, and we'll take a look.

Morning @HebeMumsnet - here's a thread that just did it. One new comment but it bounced to the top of the page instead of to the comment in question.

Is this something that can be fixed in settings? A glitch? Safari being useless?

Thanks @Catsmere . We'll take a look at those. Can we ask what device, operating system and browser you're on, too? And which versions you're on? Or let us know if you're using the app.

Sure - I'm on a 7th generation iPad, iOS 17.7.2. I use the website, never the app (haven't even downloaded that). I use Safari.

Thanks @Catsmere . That's great. Sorry - one more question: can you let us know which email provider you use? Eg BT, gmail, Outlook etc...

I've been getting this for nearly a week now.

Usually saying a new post or a like, and then only going to the OP of a thread.

But also saying there is a new post on a thread, and it takes you to the last post on the thread, and it isn't new at all!

Even more peculiar is that it seems to come and go on the same thread!

And another! It's definitely random, it hadn't happened on this thread before. Jumped to the top of today's comments, which are not close to the latest one.

Listed on my notifications that this thread had been updated, but took me to the start rather than new posts.

Windows 11, Firefox - both up to date.

I haaven't obthered reporting, but basically notifications isn't working for me at all!

It says there is a new post on a thread I am on. Not only does it not take me to the end of the thread, but when I scroll through to the end, there is no new post.

But then on occassions it says there is a new post, takes me to the end of the thread and it isn't new at all!

Notifications saying someone has reacted to a comment I have made on a thread, never take me to it.

This is mainly of FWR.

I think it did that to me somewhere the other day, too - top of the page and no new comment at all. Might have been in a childfree thread, that or Chat or AIBU.
