Automatic links to John Lewis M&S etc

The new “feature” that automatically creates a link if you type John Lewis, M&S, or presumably other major sponsoring retailers, is annoying and ill thought out.

Its going to have the opposite of the desired effect.

A couple of times now I have clicked on these links, expecting that the poster had helpfully linked to the item they were posting about. However the link is just to the main retailer site. That’s really not going to persuade me to start browsing! It just makes me irritated, and actually a little LESS likely to search for the item in question.

Totally agree. It’s really bloody annoying.

Hello @thereiscustardinthejamtart thanks for posting. This is a feature we are still testing out, so it's useful to have your feedback and we'll certainly discuss this next week.

I agree about clicking the link and expecting to find what the op is talking about. It’s annoying.

It's really annoying although if I want to refer to these shops they are now Em and Ess and J.ohn L.ewis

EternallyDelighted · 28/09/2024 22:42

Yes, really annoying.

This is a great idea!
Yes please @BeckyAMumsnet do take on board our feedback. It’s a useless feature as it doesn’t take you to a specific page, just the homepage. Unless it’s been designed to generate revenue from clicks from MN?

peppermintteacup · 30/09/2024 11:34

So why it really does for the brands is push people to not use their names.

Terrible branding

OutrageousImmoral · 30/09/2024 13:06

I agree
