Yes, I have seen it - obviously to prevent sock-puppeting but it will put an end to lighthearted threads where people mass NC on a theme for a laugh.

Oops. But such fun was had. Example, someone posts about a cake asking if they could sell it for 60 quid - someone else changes their name mid-thread to cakeabomination. It was fun! That's not the best example, just off the top of my head.

You beat us to it! As above, it's to prevent sock-puppeting on the desktop version of Mumsnet. It should be quite a useful feature but if you have any issues or feedback, do let us know.

I will miss the harmless fun name changes. And the occasional times when I post on a general interest thread and then later in the thread it occurs to me that I've got a relevant but hugely outing anecdote which I want to change to a burner nickname before posting.

Would this be retrospective? Say if a thread about something you posted on ages ago came up again (which they can sometimes do in places like the gardening or recipes topics). If you have a different username now, will it use your current name or revert back to your name from x years ago?

This has been happening for several years already, unless I misunderstand. I NC all the time and practically every longish thread in TIO has me under a different name.

Same. Or the times I post on a thread using the wrong name, Email MN beging them to delete it and then posting again with the right name. Will we be able to change name in that instance?

Oh, I see, they have taken away the ability to re-type one of your old names in the username box. That was handy on occasion for anonymity.
