Site freezing on laptop

BishyBarnyBee · 29/04/2024 09:52

The site is continually freezing so I can't click on any real threads but the advert threads are clickable. This has been going on for a week or so. No issues in the app.

Might be linked to big video ads - Vodaphone, Virgin - which seem to take up a lot of the screen at the time this is happening.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any way I can stop it happening?

Thanks.

Hi @BishyBarnyBee . Thanks for getting in touch. Can we just gather a bit more information to help us look into this?

1.Sounds like you're talking about the main site only as this doesn't happen when you're on the app?
2.Can you tell us what sort of device and browser you are using?
3.Is this happening on ALL threads that aren't promoted pages or just some? If you could send us the urls to any of the threads this is happening on that would be useful, too.
4.You mention a Vodaphone ad and a Virgin one. Are these always present when this happens? And can you send us a url to the page the ad 'clicks through' to?
5.If you are able to send us a screen recording of this in action, that would be really helpful so we can see what's going on.

Thank you!

This is happening to me too. It seems to load only when I close the Promoted by Mumsnet posts in the main menu.

Hello!

Could you answer Hebe's questions to the OP? It's a big help when we try and replicate issues!

I'm on a Dell Laptop.

Browser is Microsoft edge.

When it happens, all threads on the page are frozen except the mumsnet promoted pages.

It's not all the time, but has happened intermittently for a few weeks

It pretty much has seemed to be always Virgin and Vodaphone.

I haven't managed to capture it but will try again next time it happens.

Thanks so much,

Bishy

Me too, but seems to occur pretty randomly, hadnt noticed a particular page/advert etc that caused it. Been happening a couple of weeks.

Hi @LilyMumsnet - all things equal - it only happens when I'm on my work laptop and not my personal one.

1.Sounds like you're talking about the main site only as this doesn't happen when you're on the app?
Website only, I don't use the app
2.Can you tell us what sort of device and browser you are using?
Work - Lenovo laptop, home HP laptop. Both using Edge browser on VM at home. Also happens on work laptop at work - not that I MN at work of course...
3.Is this happening on ALL threads that aren't promoted pages or just some? If you could send us the urls to any of the threads this is happening on that would be useful, too.

The main Active Conversations page freezes on loading, it doesn't seem to happen when I am on individual threads, just the main menu. If I close the promoted threads quick enough when Active Conversations is loading it seems to load ok.
4.You mention a Vodaphone ad and a Virgin one. Are these always present when this happens? And can you send us a url to the page the ad 'clicks through' to?
I've not noticed specific ads, but I do close them when the page is loading too.
5.If you are able to send us a screen recording of this in action, that would be really helpful so we can see what's going on.

I'll try and send a screenshot tomorrow.

Yes happens to me, it's clearly the ads. A bit counterproductive really as I just leave the site when it happens.

Thanks so much for all of the information - we're investigating now and will come back when we have an update for you.
