Why am I seeing sponsored ads?

I decided to pay for premium to stop all the stupid ads. Why am I now seeing sponsored ads in the middle of threads? I upgraded to premium not to see ads of any sort, what’s the point of paying for a premium subscription to still see ads?

Hi ElloiseMcTavish thanks very much for becoming a Premium member.

Can you please let us know the kind of ads you're seeing? We think you might be referring to content links - these might take the form of lists of best buys or content that we've created that we feel is relevant to the thread, and therefore these will be visible to all users of the site, including Premium members. Is that the kind of thing you're seeing?

ElloiseMcTavish · 13/04/2024 23:43

Yes it is. I’d rather not see them tbh, they’re right in the middle of thread and of no relevance to me.

Other premium posters have complained about this too

Hi again @ElloiseMcTavish. Thanks for getting back to us. Yes, those are links to our own content rather than paid-for ads but we will pass your feelings about it upwards.

This is happening to me too and it's not mumsnet content, it's a proper ad. I'll post a screenshot.

This looks to me like a proper advert. I'm definitely signed into my account which is a premium one - and like op, the point of paying for it was to get rid of the ads. Please could you look into it mumsnet

Got another one today. Definitely signed into my premium account. I'm not sure if my last comment was seen by anyone but just going to pop this here and hope it gets looked into.

Hi there @Mumoftwo1312 . Yes, those look like 'ordinary' ads to us, which you shouldn't be seeing. We'll look into this right now.

Mumoftwo1312 · 08/05/2024 11:34

Thank you very much for looking into it xx

Mumoftwo1312 · 19/05/2024 20:05

@HebeMumsnet did anyone work out what was up with the ads? I just got it again, the same bottle ad as before. Is there any other info I can share to help get it sorted? Many thanks

Hi there @Mumoftwo1312 . Sorry for the delay. We've double checked and actually the screengrabs posted here should be visible even for Premium members. Premium members won't see any banner ads – the image-based ads that tend to take up bandwidth and slow down page loading times. They tend to be the banner across the top and a rectangle at the side of the page, or at the bottom on mobile. They are generally the ones that take bandwidth to download. The text-based native ads – usually promoting offers or Mumsnet's own content – are still visible on Premium. So these ones mentioned here look like those types of offers. Sorry if we got your hopes up, but they shouldn't slow anything down and you should be able to just scroll past them easily.

hexsnidgett · 20/05/2024 11:39

Yes. Mumsnet has changed the definition of an advert. Not worth paying for premium anymore.

OK thanks for letting me know.

@HebeMumsnet should these ads be video ads? I've started seeing video ads in the middle of threads and that does really slow down loading. I live in the sticks and can't get superfast broadband which is why I pay for MN Premium really!

2Rebecca · 14/06/2024 15:18

I'm a premium member and just today have started seeing sponsored ads on pages. Lots of bags and M&S trousers on the Telly Addicts list of threads

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/06/2024 20:09

Every other thread seems to be an advert post.
One of the reasons I rarely post on mn nowadays. It has moved a long long way from where it used to be.
