Muslim Board

Hi @mnhq is it possible to please request a Muslim Board on here, a safe space for Muslims to have to speak freely about things that matter and should be discussed? Similar to that of the Jewish board.

@MNHQ if you are short of reasons why a Muslim board would be welcome just read the "visitors" on this thread.

We have other boards set up for precisely the reasons they demonstrate. Whilst they may not be perfect there is at least somewhere we can say "read the topic and bog off back to trolling AIBU".

I've just found this for all you potato lovers!

Am aghast that there is such a divisive suggestion.

There is no place for potatoes in a biryani.

Oh I dunno. They're quite nice in one.

But can you handle Ashkenazi Matza ….?!😅

I'm a serious eater, I can handle anything. if you reccommend recipes I will try them ♡

I have to say though, even though I celebrate diversity in all its glory can never understand how anyone can dislike potatoes? just doesn't make sense in my head because i would sell my own mother for a suitably delicious tray of roast potatoes (not a sign of a good muslim). I realise this is a me problem....

Scirocco · 05/04/2024 13:35

For a truly controversial dish, make potato-free biryani and serve it with mint yoghurt as a baked potato filling.

I wonder whether the delay is due to discussions at mnhq over whether what's in fact needed is a Muslims (with potatoes) plus a Muslims (potatoes in biryani are ypu mad) board.

And a third board please for non Muslims who are incredibly over invested in the potato debate (potatoes are the best bits of a biryani!)

@EllaDisenchanted There are different recipes for briyani depending on where you come from for example, Pakistani briyani, Mauritian briyani etc. Some are more spicier than others and cooked slightly differently.

having eaten many many different types of biryani .... I can tell you nothing beats dhakai kachchi biryani - made with kid goat (has to be black and male dont ask me why) with special perfumed rice species only available in bangladesh on a coal fire. and I am in no way biased even though I come from Bangladesh. generally dhaka is awful, but would reccommend any serious biryani enthusiasts visit to just eat the biryani (other foods also amazing).

that actually sounds really good.

My current food dilemma is what kheer to make for Eid. I thought I'd narrowed it down to either pistachio or strawberry, but I've just re-discovered a recipe for carrot kheer...

anotherlevel · 05/04/2024 13:41

I've just received the same message from MNHQ as @EasterIssland did. Hopefully not a long wait.

Although I'm enjoying the recipe suggestions, I think it's a pity that MNHQ haven't yet even acknowledged the thread.

If they're discussing the possibility of setting up a Muslim board, they could at least say so.

I've reported the OP and asked them to respond BTW.

I slow cook cooked basmati rice with milk, cardammom, cinnamon and flaked almonds for 4 - 6 hours (stirring ocassionally) adding saffron and rose syrup(monin) towards the end as well as double cream. absolutely amazing.

carrot kheer also sounds lovely.

Scirocco · 05/04/2024 13:46

Rose kheer is amazing! Oh no, another idea... Possibly better than strawberry actually...

So, new shortlist: pistachio, rose or carrot...

RavenswoodFalls · 05/04/2024 13:47

Would it work with both rose and pistachio?

why not make all of them?

Now that is a very good question... 👍🤞

Perhaps this could be our Muslim board if one isn't being created! Love how it's bringing us all together.

I know, why cant the cat lovers, the royal family threads, the TV threads and style and beauty just all post in chat together...

Why cant we all just be one big board with no seperate topics?

Oh no, wait, that wasnt quite what you meant was it...

Wow...

GoodOldEmmaNess · 05/04/2024 14:31

As someone with a Polish Catholic relative who served us pierogi with a mashed potato filling at Easter (basically potato-filled pasta), I think all faiths should have both a standard board and a low carb board.

you lucky thing. carb on carb is the best thing ever

aloo paratha
cheese and onion pasty from greggs
bengali mashed potato with rice and fried potatoes with rice (both eaten very often)
vada pav
pau bhaji
chip butty

the list goes on

Dilbertian · 05/04/2024 14:54

Knishes, kheer, kugel, pierogi, samosas, chip butties... never mind 'Love Thy Neighbour' - what we all have in common is clearly 'Love Thy Carbs'!

(@EllaDisenchanted, please, for the love of world peace, do not suggest to anyone that they eat Rakusens cardboard matzo.)

If so- what is everyone wearing for eid? I really struggle with the kids now they are older as i think traditional at 50-75 pounds per kid is a bit much

ginasevern · 05/04/2024 15:01

@anotherlevel

I know this isn't the intended topic of this thread but may I ask about Eid? I have lovely new Sundanese neighbours and I want to welcome them. I believe Eid is on 9th/10th April and I thought about buying them a gift. So, firstly is this appropriate, secondly which day to give them it and thirdly what to buy! I thought maybe some confectionary. Any ideas gratefully received.
