Would you consider an Etsy/handmade/selling section?

I have an Etsy shop and website and so on. I handmake things. Not going to say what obviously.
Would you consider a section where we can share our shops? Under name changes but you could set it so you must be a regular contributor and / or have been a member for more than however long, and people can report shops that are drop shippers.

I'd certainly pay for that. Maybe you have to be a premium member to have access to that facility? Anyone can view or comment but only premium members can share their shops?

You could be allowed only, say, one post a week to stop spamming the board with thread after thread?

Thanks, all. So we are thinking it would be one fee to start a thread, which you and others can continue to post on. The aim is to keep the board truly handmade - but bearing in mind this may be difficult on occasion to fully ascertain. You would be able to report anything you believe isn't suitable for the board.

Please bear with us, we're just making a few tweaks and will update you shortly.

Has there been any updates

I would like a place to buy handmade items that are not drop shipped from China, like 90% of etsy has become.

Holly and co is a place where you can do this. I always have a look and then go direct to the seller to purchase so they get the money. Sometimes the market places can take a hefty commission.

Waiting with interest....

Posting for a small fee is good, as part of that it would need to be possible to comment on posts where posters are looking for gift ideas. Maybe a monthly fee which allows this

If MN were to allow this, can there be an opt-out for people who don’t want posters promoting their own shops on their thread?

(No issue with a specific section - but I like the fact that MN is generally free from people trying to sell us stuff on threads)

IncompleteSenten · 02/04/2024 17:27

Mn already has that function. You can select topics and threads to hide.

Not if posters are posting outwith the section, though, which is what PPs seemed to be suggesting?

And the other good thing about seller platforms like Etsy is customers have buyer protection so even if you bought something let's say mine cos I'm about to be insulting 😂 and you got it and thought well that's a pile of shit and not at all as described - you can open a case and Etsy refunds you if it agrees it's not as described or faulty etc

So it's not like the old selling boards on here years ago where it was buyer beware and people did sometimes get ripped off.

Giving the same level of buyer protection would be a big ask for Mumsnet and possibly distract them from what Mumsnet does well. Why would they do this when other platforms e.g. Etsy already do this so well?

How long would it be before they did this on Mumsnet !?

Surely easier to report. Reporting on ebay/vinted/etsy is a joke.
