Ads on Mumsnet Premium

I am annoyed to find that on almost every thread I read I get a series of horizontal type ads about 10 posts down. For example on a weight loss thread today after a few posts in there are are several apparently linked ads for bathroom scales etc. They are not small either.
I subscribe to Mumsnet Premium because I don't want to sees any ads at all. So what's the point in my continuing to pay?

I've just found another one on a thread asking how to beat chocolate addiction, (it's about eight to 10 posts in) which is for "the tastiest Easter eggs".
For heaven's sake!

Hi @SiobhanSharpe

We're sorry to hear you're seeing ads. Can you please let us know which device and browser and which version of the site you're using? If you're also able to provide a screenshot that would be very helpful so we can investigate what's going on.

Thanks in advance.

They aren't ads. Apparently.

Yep MN don't view them as Ads.

It's also worth noting that premium was never intended to be advert free it just meant you saw fewer Ads apparently so not entirely sure it was ever worth the money.

BIWI · 19/01/2024 12:55

And even Ad blocker doesn't remove them. So I hear Wink

JoMumsnet · 19/01/2024 13:00

Hi again @SiobhanSharpe - thanks very much for posting the screenshot.
The examples you've shown are to Mumsnet content links, not adverts as such. They might be lists of best buys or content we've created that we think may be relevant to the thread, so these will be visible to all users of the site including Premium members.

ReflectiveRogue1001 · 19/01/2024 13:37

@JoMumsnet etc al, you may not consider them adverts, but Premium users who pay for the privilege of NOT receiving ads most certainly do.

BIWI · 19/01/2024 15:31

I think, regardless of what you call them, it's content that's not generated by MNetters, promoting specific products. AKA advertising.

SiobhanSharpe · 21/01/2024 09:55

I have to agree with these PPs, I do consider them to be advertising and find them intrusive -- and can be really inappropriate, as I illustrated.
I'm considering cancelling my Mumsnet premium subscription.m

Count me in to the complaints above. Don't tell me it's not a bug, it's a feature... it's bugging me! Take it away, please.

AthenaWhite · 28/01/2024 15:47

Might as well cancel the premium and go back to an ad blocker instead. I HATE them.

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/01/2024 18:18

This annoys me so much!
It's a relatively recent occurence too - we never used to see them.

I'm also considering this.

I love mn very much. And value it hugely, but have been hugely disappointed with, for example, the sex topic in active.

I became a premium member because mnhq begged for premium members ("we're on the bones of our arse" email) and the carrot they offered was no ads.

But if they continue to let me down, I'm going to go with a plan B

But as a Premium member who pays to use the site I don’t want to see them and neither does a lot of other posters. Like a PP I subscribed after the “bone of our arse” email, I don’t want to see links to MN content links, I have a search button to look for things relevant to me if I want to look for something. Like others if it continues I’ll be unsubscribing from paying and using an ad blocker.
