I'm still campaigning for a 'chicken' topic - I think MNHQ have said it is too much of a 'minority' topic. But, there seem to be loads of us. So please sign in so I can see how many there are! Thank you!

yes i do and think we should definitely have a topic on them and maybe'smallholding' too/allotmenst similar kind of threads so the ducks etc can have a place too

GentleOtter · 17/03/2008 13:55

I am GentleOtter and I have chickens.

GentleOtter · 17/03/2008 13:57

I HATE being put into 'Ethical' living.

AlienEars · 17/03/2008 13:57

I have 2 chickens, 4 bantams and 4 bantam chicks. If DH had his way we'd have much much more...

tortoiseSHELL · 17/03/2008 13:57

Yes, I think really Gardening should be split into

Gardening; gardening
Gardening; allotments/food production
Gardening; livestock

That would be fine!

ska · 17/03/2008 14:00

what kind of bantams do you have? we need to replace ones eaten by the fox: had belgian d'anjou, pekin, wyndotte, something and 2 i cant remember they were so old! what are silkies like?

ska · 17/03/2008 14:00

oh yes and thinking of getting a pair ofgeese, anyone have these?

marmadukescarlet · 17/03/2008 14:01

Ours arriving shortly.

MehgaLegs · 17/03/2008 14:04

They are going to give it a go tortoise - see the Caitlin thread.

hippipotami · 17/03/2008 14:04

Can I sign in? We don't have any chickens yet, but it is something dh and I have talked about for the past year, and I am willing to bet good money that by next spring we have our very own chucks.

So a chicken topic, perhaps merged with a veg growing topic (as in grow/rear your own food topic) would be very very very handy.

So please MNHQ, give us chicken lovers a little section? [pleading emoticon]

Ripeberry · 17/03/2008 14:35

I've got chickens! Been keeping them for the last 7yrs (not the same ones obviously).
Lots of free, fresh eggs for familly and neighbours.
Great alarm system, as they go nuts if anything unusual is going on in the garden.
But i've only got 2 left as my 6yr old "fluffy" died last month.
AB

CunningFox · 17/03/2008 14:36

Yes and I'll have the others.
