Giving thanks !

Hello , this may be a stupid question but ..... what is the purpose of giving thanks?
I've had quite a few on some of my posts ( which seems nice!)
But I'm not really sure what it's all about!

It's similar to a 'like' button, but only visible to you. A quick way of thanking someone for a post you appreciate.

Thanks @ANightmareBeforeChristmas , I sort of get that but ( sorry to sound dim!)
What's the point ? 🤣

I suppose from MN's point of view it's to increase user engagement with the site.

You're probably right !
I mainly use the app and you don't see any notifications or pms !
I have to log into desktop so I just find it odd !

Hi OP

We thought that it would be nice for users to have the ability to thank each other for helpful or generous posts. Hidden Gratitude is a quick and easy way to show appreciation - and that's the point of it! Flowers

Thanks @LilyMumsnet and for the 💐 , I'd give thanks to you but I'd have to log in on the desktop! 🤣🤣

Do you get a notification if someone thanks you?

I've sometimes only noticed by chance when scrolling back that I've been thanked.

LilyMumsnet · 21/12/2023 10:56

Hi @diddl

It sounds like these might be turned off for you. If you head to https://www.mumsnet.com/settings/notifications and click 'web notifications', you'll be able to to turn them on. The option is 'Notify me when others have thanked my posts'.

DuploTrain · 21/12/2023 11:02

People (not the OP) seem to use it as a “like” button, to say they agree with you. It seems to have replaced people quoting your post and saying they agree.

Which is completely pointless because the OP can’t see that people are agreeing with my post. And the people who have thanked me then don’t post themselves.

diddl · 21/12/2023 11:14

Thank you!

My ex stalks me on MN, I can name-change to post of course but I also like being able to appreciate others’ posts without having think about being ‘seen’

I suppose from MN's point of view it's to increase user engagement with the site.

Its most likely to add more clicks for the ad revenue.
