Dear Mumsnet please could we have a 'Larger Families' section?

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 13/03/2008 20:31

rather like the 'multiples' section

it could be for 4+ children maybe and we can all get together and discuss how to run home soup kitchens/chinese laundry and whether or not Nick Leeson had the right idea for how to finance our broods?

I have mooted it before and people seem quite keen - it is different having a lot of children and it helps to have support

Thanks !

Yes, dh is the biological father of all our children and no, he is never mistaken for one of the children.

juuule · 23/03/2008 18:00

Diva - it's not cramped, it's cosy

ScienceTeacher · 23/03/2008 18:02

My kids are from all one family

bigcar · 23/03/2008 18:10

Oh blimey, I'm late again! Can I join?
dd1 17
dd2 9
ds1 7
dd3 2 on friday!
I've just spent 2 days catching up with my ironing so seemed to have missed whats been going on!

kittywise · 23/03/2008 18:12

Diva, I'm as yet not entirely convinced that all the children in the house are mine, dd2 in particular .

I'm considering dna testing

Love the futility room,

This is a great thread, keep the ideas rolling in.

Oh yes I know, can anybody suggest ways of making the school run mornings less er MENTAL??????

bigcar · 23/03/2008 18:12

I don't confuse my dh with the dcs but can never get the right name for the kids, I've taken to shouting "you" and pointing a lot

magnolia74 · 23/03/2008 18:29

Mine are all dh's but for sure, not sure if they are all mine

ladytophamhatt · 23/03/2008 19:12

all DH's here too.

Cammelia · 23/03/2008 19:18

Oh I know kama, I'm completely in awe of how people cope with large families. I was one of 4 children and can't believe how my mother used to do it all so well.

oliviaelanasmum · 23/03/2008 19:42

Kitty Dd1 is from a previous relationship but she has never met her "father" and dp is the only dad she has ever known, the others are dp's.
I want to know why out of all my neighbours that we walk to school with i have the most children yet im always the first one ready and have to wait for them!

kittywise · 23/03/2008 20:05

oliviaeleansmum, yes I know it's always the way isn't it?
I think having loads of children forces you to be more organised than if you had only a couple. We have a tight schedule in the morning and I have to stick to it. I leave us 10-15 mins extra time so that allows for the inevitable last minute "I need a poo" malarky!!!

aGalChangedHerName · 23/03/2008 20:12

My DH is the dad to all of mine but folk have been rude/cheeky enough to ask in the past if they are all his I think because there's a biggish age gap between the ds's and the dd's.

I was gob smacked!!

MoreSpamThanGlam · 23/03/2008 20:16

Can I come in?

DD - 13
dsd - 12
ds -9
dd - 18months

Have i missed holidays abroad yet?

No - I dont want a villa, I want a holiday...please....

PrincessPeaHead · 23/03/2008 20:18

for the sake of completeness you can add me to the list
dd1 10 last week
ds1 7
ds2 4
dd2 2
same dad!!!

heronsfly · 23/03/2008 20:20

Im late too but can I join please
dd1 27
ds1 26
ds2 24
ds3 22
dd2 11
dd3 8
all have same father, but did get some funny looks in doctors once when with ds1 and dd3 someone obviously thought I had a toy boy

aGalChangedHerName · 23/03/2008 20:27

Heronsfly i have had the same lol. My ds1 is a very very old/mature 16.6 year old and often has dd2 or dd1 in his arms or holding a hand and we get funny looks. Or if he's alone with them outside he gets dirty looks as folk think he's the dad

Divastrop · 23/03/2008 20:53

i'm the only slapper than with 5 kids by 3 different men

hopefully dh will officially be ds2's dad soon though.

i would be concerned if people assumed he was ds1 and dd1's father though as it would have meant i slept with a 14 year old when i was 20

kitty-my mornings seem to have calmed down the more children ive had.when it was just 2 i always ended up shouting at them.i think its just because i walk out and leave them to it if they arent ready now.

Psychomum5 · 23/03/2008 21:01

I go do dinner for 15, and many many more turn up......

sorkycake · 23/03/2008 21:11

can I ask about after pains please?

Psychomum has worried me a tad. The pains after my 3rd child were quite simply horrific, I cried with the pain and would have honestly rather have given birth again.

Do they get worse with each child or stay about the same for 4 or more?

Mind my uterus was back to it's normal position in 9 days which the m/w seemed surprised at so maybe it was painful because it was fast iyswim.

Psychomum5 · 23/03/2008 21:12

ok.....school run

I get as much possible done the night before.

I have a huge american style fridge so all lunchboxes are done as soon as we get home from school the previous day and put in ready.

school bags packed before they go to bed.

uniforms are on the banister as soon as they get out of them from school, so of course ready for the morning. unless it is thurs as that is clean uniform day, altho even then, weds they ut the dirty on the wash and put out the clean.

shoes, coats, bags in the hall ready.

breakfast bowls and cereal put on the table the night before, and who ever is first down gets all the milks (normal and soya) out from the fridge......and does the apple/orange juice.

I have 5 in 3 different schools and we need to be ready to leave the house at 8am. We rise at 6.45am, I put on the shower and get in followed by each of them in turn, then dress and straight downstairs for brekkie.....oh, including in the dressing time hair doing for the girls.

luckily I normally have a friend help with the elder two, but if not then se get to go a 8am, first drop at 8.15 and then the others at 8.40 and 8.50 altho their school are next to each other.

last year was hell as I had 4 schools to get to, all at least 3 miles apart from each other!!!!

only prob now that we have are that DD3 has a blood condition so has blood tests twice a week at 8.30am so we have to figure those into the equation too.......[eek]. got another 3wks to go as yet (we are in a 6wk course of them), so got hols to juggle.....altho they not so bad, DD3 has a phobia of people watching her have the blood taken which proves hell for the hols and childcare!

Psychomum5 · 23/03/2008 21:14

sorky....I won't lie, so I won't tell....

Divastrop · 23/03/2008 21:15

sorky-erm,what psychomum5 said

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 23/03/2008 21:16

sorky i always get co - codamol on prescription before the delivery now

works a treat and generally numbs the edges of the first few days into a lovely hazy glow

OP posts:
sorkycake · 23/03/2008 21:19

Oh god they get feckin worse don't they?

I didn't take any pain killers at all, so might ask for co-codamol then, does that cross into b'milk?
