I would like a reply to the "Reply" issue

DappledThings · 03/11/2023 09:07

Just thought I'd start another thread to get more attention on this again as there has been no answer as to whether it is even being looked at.

A few comments on MNHQ's recent thread about the new feature pointing out nobody asked for that but a lot of us have asked you to fix this.

To summarise: The button marked Reply does not do what it says. It adds a post, it does not do a reply. MN has no reply feature but, bizarrely, chooses to have a button that pretends it does. This leads to threads full of "replies" that have no context and are impossible to follow. Plus posts saying "sorry, not sure why my reply didn't work, I clicked reply"

@Heather37231 for the life of me I can’t find this setting!

On the mobile site click on the little person icon top right.

Go to settings, then drop down arrow for more settings, then notifications then web notifications.

Thank you! And I’ve ’thanked’ your post too 😆

Hi all

Just to let you know, we're currently working on the changes with the reply button. These will be released in the near future - we'll keep you updated. Flowers

Papillon23 · 22/01/2024 21:47

Thanks @LilyMumsnet for keeping us posted. Fingers crossed for the changes :)

ADoggyDogWorld · 23/01/2024 17:30

Thank you Lily.

TheShellBeach · 30/01/2024 17:51

Right. It looks like the Reply button has been removed, but the Quote button remains hidden under the three dots.

So we don't seem to be any further forward.

DappledThings · 30/01/2024 17:52

Sadly not. I just clicked Reply to post this and yep, still not actually a reply

@DappledThings have you noticed it? I don't see how removing the Reply button completely is going to improve matters, do you? Or am I missing something obvious?

The Quote button is still under the three dots.

There is no Reply button on my desktop site now. It has disappeared.

TheShellBeach · 30/01/2024 17:55

This is what it looks like for me now:

Sorry - you'll have to click on the whole image to see what I mean.

Desktop hasn't had a reply button for a long while (if ever). It's called "Add message" on desktop and is on the far left. Does the same thing, but the wording makes a bit more sense. Still a stupid place for it though.

No, I don't think removing is a significant improvement but better than it being there at all. If there's no option to "Reply" then people can't use it thinking they are doing so wouldn't write as if they were answering a specific post.

I use the desktop mobile site. It's the same as it was for me.

I still have the useless button sitting there doing less than a bloke with man flu lying on the sofa wearing the dressing gown of doom...

Heather37231 · 30/01/2024 18:41

Yeah, nothing has changed.

Right, this is really weird.
The Reply button has returned.

Baffled.

You need to turn the sound up on your device, it’s making a groaning sound to me. 🤣

LookItsMeAgain · 31/01/2024 09:18

I mean how difficult is it to swap the location of the "Quote" option and the "Add Reply" option around?

Seriously - how difficult would that have been to implement?????

Just swap them around. The 'functionality' of these two options would move with them but the Quote would be where Add Reply is and Add Reply would be hidden under the three dots.

I cannot fathom how MN are making this out to be a bigger issue than it really needs to be.

MN Admins & coding team were quick enough to be able to bring in the "Thanks" option but they can't get this issue that has been hanging around even longer that I don't know what, sorted.

UnremarkableBeasts · 31/01/2024 09:26

Maybe they’re doing some rigorous user research and iterative design to make sure they get it right.

You would think it makes sense to do some user research and reach out to those who use the site to help with improvements. But way back in November when HebeMumsnet posted

We're going to run some tests to figure out what the best option is for the largest majority of users

Lots of posters offered to help with the testing, only to be met with silence.

I was first to reply to the OP (although I know plenty have suggested the same thing in the past) and said I wish they would just move the quote button to where reply is. Yet here we are months later and Mumsnet is still ignoring the most obvious solution. Confused

LookItsMeAgain · 31/01/2024 09:51

You do know that they'll probably call it something else just to confuse us, them and any one else who may in the future be tasked with supporting the Talk boards 😂
Because you can never have too many things called different names but essentially are the same thing

DappledThings · 31/01/2024 09:52

Yep, really annoying. And yet what ever "solution" is finally implemented they will claim it was user tested widely.

UnremarkableBeasts · 31/01/2024 10:02

‘Tests’ could mean all sorts of things. It doesn’t necessarily mean user testing.
