Further to our new "thanks" button, could we also have a "laugh" button?

prompted by the "hairy chin" thread, there are so many posters on various threads that make me laugh out loud.

As we all know laughter is the best medicine which gives a sense of togetherness and appreciation of our fellow humans/Mumsnetters, all of whom are gifted in their perspicacity in seeing the lighter side of life.

Would this be possible/desired, at all, by other site users?

It's a no from because the voting and the 'like' can't be used on the App.

TheShellBeach · 19/10/2023 16:02

I'd love this, and I wish MN would ensure that everyone has the same facilities.
If there was a laugh button I'd like it to show how many laughs a post got.
The thanks button is pointless because you can't see it.

BIWI · 19/10/2023 16:38

You've said that before @TheShellBeach - what do you mean about the thanks button being pointless because you can't see it? Do you mean that other people can't see it? Or you can't see it?

woolthread · 19/10/2023 16:47

I think it has potential to be misused. So no. It could be used to laugh at posts you disagreed with, for example.

Even the 'thanks' button has encountered misuse, apparently, with users thanking with an insulting username.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 19/10/2023 16:55

No it would be used in a derisory way and as a fuck you. The existence of the eye rolling emoji is enough!!

JaneJeffer · 19/10/2023 16:55

Just do 🤣🤣🤣 that'll go down a treat with some people 😝

GodDammitCecil · 19/10/2023 16:57

No, I don’t see the need - I routinely thank people for funny posts.

Same diff, surely.

And agree it could be mis-used.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 19/10/2023 16:58

The unimaginative bored type that hangs out a lot here would already have the "You OK hun?" or "Are you quite young" response pre prepared to post with any well meant laugh icon. Unfortunately

GodDammitCecil · 19/10/2023 16:58

The thanks button is pointless because you can't see it.

?

Yes you can.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 19/10/2023 17:01

I think they mean that the cumulative thanks a post gets, can't be seen by the mumsnet audience. An individual can see their own thanks

Thanks. That is what I mean.

BIWI · 19/10/2023 17:18

I'm glad other people can't see it though. Otherwise it will become competitive.

greyhairnomore · 19/10/2023 17:22

You can't vote or see any buttons on the app

ThePoshUns · 19/10/2023 17:27

Thanks button? Where?

GCAcademic · 19/10/2023 17:28

Im not in favour, mainly because the Quote button has disappeared into the three dots since the Thanks one was added (presumably to make room for it). I’d rather see that brought back than another button added.

sprigatito · 19/10/2023 17:30

People will use it to be cunty. I know I would.

CesareBorgia · 19/10/2023 17:31

Too many response buttons and Mumsnet will feel like Teams.

IdaPolly · 19/10/2023 17:32

On Facebook people use it to mock people.

FlagFatigue · 19/10/2023 20:04

I like that I can only see my own 'thanks' from people. I don't need anyone else to see how amazingly helpful I am. 😂 I still think it's a bit pointless though.

I think a laugh button, if everyone could see it, has the potential for certain types to fawn over other certain types. 😬 If no one could see it, then fine, but again, it seems pointless.

AvengedQuince · 19/10/2023 20:07

No, the nasty type would use it to attack.

Sueveneers · 20/10/2023 05:02

Please no. The 'laugh' button would be used to laugh at/mock people you disagree with in a discussion. It's passive-aggressive so I hope it's not ever allowed on here. It's bad enough on facebook when you get into a discussion and your opposite in the discussion 'laughs' at all your responses. I genuinely hope that's never allowed on here.

The Quote function was under the three dots well before the thanks function was added.

AutumnCrow · 20/10/2023 05:25

No thanks. I’d rather MNHQ sorted the app out for people.

😂

Well, this made me laugh!
