Further to our new "thanks" button, could we also have a "laugh" button?

prompted by the "hairy chin" thread, there are so many posters on various threads that make me laugh out loud.

As we all know laughter is the best medicine which gives a sense of togetherness and appreciation of our fellow humans/Mumsnetters, all of whom are gifted in their perspicacity in seeing the lighter side of life.

Would this be possible/desired, at all, by other site users?

And 'no' to a laugh button too; the thanks is bad enough (as I feel MN are gradually going to use it as a 'like' feature, in time). But on the app, don't have those functions anyway so ...

How would you use it to attack? Evidently I'm a idiot as I can't figure it out.

Anyway do you need to distinguish why you are privately thanking a poster? Why not just thank them for making you laugh?

Mind you I had totally forgotten about the thank button (despite it being obvious) until I noticed I'd accidentally thanked someone the other day. Pressed it again to remove it - but have no idea if I unthanked them or thanked them twice!

To laugh at people you disagree with. People already use the laughter emoji in a nasty fashion, this would allow them to do so without others seeing.

If you spend any time on FB you will understand. The laughing emoji is often used inappropriately to laugh at things that are not funny.

See incredibly serious issue, that’s not even remotely funny - and people posting laughing emojis…..

I can cast-iron guarantee it would be misused in the same way here.

Thanks @beetr00 we'll certainly give your suggestion some thought. As pps have noted, the laugh emoji is often used inappropriately on social media. However, pretty much everything has the potential to be misused and we always try to mitigate this when we introduce a new feature. We'll have a chat about this anyway.

Guess not 😄Thanks to all who replied.
