No longer able to change my username?

I just tried to change my username and it said I’m not allowed to choose a new one. Why is this? Is this a permanent issue?

Oh I was just coming to post about this. I thought maybe I'd been blocked from NCing due to having so many usernames

S10, latest version of Chrome. Can only change to a previous username, otherwise I get the same message as @Dessertinthedesert

You can still name change if they username belongs to you. This error message should say something along the lines of 'this username is already taken' - but it's showing incorrectly. We'll have it fixed soon!

Mine just doesn’t give me an option to change? I click on my username and nothing happens?

We can't see any other usernames in your history, so that's why! When you own more usernames you can then change them.

Yes but you have to change your username to a new name in order to "own" the new one...

I can only change my username to a previous one I've used before. I can't change it to a new name, and it's not because the ones I've tried are taken because I've tried changing it to completely random combos of letters/numbers and still get the same message that I can only change it to a name that already belongs to me!

I'm a regular Name-changer and I just went to change my name expecting to see this issue, but I was able to change to a new name no trouble at all.

I am using Chrome browser on a Samsung android phone.

Hi @BOOooOOooOObsOnTheMoon - and @Buildingthefuture are you both using the app? If so, you're not currently able to assign yourself a new username within the app - you'd have to switch to the mobile or desktop site. Once the name has been added to your account, you'll be able to select it from within the app.

However I've now worked out that I can only name change if I put a space after the last character - until I add the space, it just says in red under the box "please enter a username". But when I enter a space after the username I've typed, it tells me whether or not that username is available. It doesn't seem to register that there's any text in the box until I add a space. Does that make sense?

I am now on my desktop and still can't do it? It will not allow me to do anything with my user name?

@Dessertinthedesert It's a bit confusing. The 'Your username' box only allows current/previous usernames. To change to a new username, you have to click on the account icon, then settings, then type a new username in the username box in that menu. Once you've done that, if it's available, it will save. Then you can use it.

Be aware that if you only want to use it temporarily, you'll have to change your username back to your normal username in that box in the settings menu, because your new default name will be the new name you've chosen.
