"Edited" thingy and other edit related things

Could you possibly move the "Edited" thingy to somewhere else other than the end of the post I've edited? It's irritating the hell out of me!

Great function - but sometimes I can edit more than once, other times not. Can you explain?

When I'm editing, I sometimes want to add a tag to another poster, but because when I'm editing, I can't see the thread itself, I sometimes don't know who they are. Being able to select them from the drop-down is a brilliant addition, though

Can we just check what device and browser you're using so we can see the positioning?

PC, Windows 10, Edge

On mine, it immediately follows the end of the edited post, as if it's an emoticon with a space, following the text of the post, and on the same line.

Ruins the look, ruins an emoticon punchline <---such as that one

I do want it to say "Edited" somewhere, but at present it's too intrusive.

How about just after the time of the post? (which I presume is the time the post was first posted, not the time after last edit?)

And when I'm drafting a post, can you stop it selecting the trailing space of any word I want to select?

Appears fine on the app - edited is at the end of a post, in a different colour.

If you want to tag a poster, just check it first then edit & add the tag, surely?

Glad it is not just me that finds it disruptive at the bottom of the post.

I agree OP, pity it's not underneath on it's own unobtrusive line rather than at the immediate end of the post.

But sometimes I can't remember their name.
Or I start to amend a typo, and realise mid-edit that I want to tag them, but then I can't read their post while I'm editing.
So then I have to stop editing, and go back to the thread, and write down their username, or remember it.
And then I have to click Edit on my post again, and add what I want to.

Regarding the placement of the 'edited' sign, we made the decision about the current placement based on a number of factors including user feedback. So for now we won't be making any changes, but we will continue to read and discuss the feedback as it comes in.

Equally, at the moment there's no way to close down the editor and look at the thread but it's something we can look into for the future if lots of users feel it might be useful.

Just to clarify, in case it helps, here's how the edit function works:

• User posts
• User is given a 5 minute window to edit the post. It is possible to edit more than once in that time period.
• After that 5 minute window is over the button is no longer available
• When a user clicks in to the see the edit they will see the original post at the bottom and each version of the post above with the most recent changes at the top.

I'm irritated by this, not just in my own posts, but in those of other posters who have edited.

@VentBox and @AutumnFroglets agree with my point, on this very thread.

Can't you at least move it further over to the right? My brain automatically sees it as part of the post.

Also, selection of trailing spaces. I like to craft my posts a little, and it's a faff deleting an underline or bold from a trailing space!

I was saying that on the app it does appear separately, on a separate line. As in, the issue you are having is not across all platforms. 🤷🏻‍♀️

For clarity, your 'careful design' didn't work on the app, or the web version (Chrome browser). Both show 'edited' in a different colour, on a different line, separate to the post.

So it doesn't affect as many people as you think.

As for the tagging thing, that's nuts. If you so badly want to edit your post to tag someone, check their name first, then edit. It's not that hard!

Would you mind posting a screenshot of what you see on the app? I don't have it on a separate line. (Opera browser on android tablet).

Perfectly placed 'edited' (ditto for web version via Chrome). I can see the issue for you & OP in your version tho.

I don't care where the little 'edited' thingy goes, I'm just pleased I can correct typos.
