Hi Mumsnet,
Wondering why my last post was deleted. Thanks.

Was the topic related to your username by any chance?

SellingKnickers · 06/09/2023 01:46

Yes, it was. I was actually genuinely interested in getting some advice. I thought people would be slightly more open minded. Obviously not.

I saw your thread, you mentioned a specific website and it was practically advertising which is against the rules here.

TooManyClouds · 06/09/2023 02:27

Grim.

Hi there @SellingKnickers . We can't see any reason why that post would have been deleted. We'll take a look at this now and get back to you.

Really @Hebe? Shock

Why not start a new board for pervs then - we have a pedants' corner, why not a perverts' corner?

HebeMumsnet · 06/09/2023 11:27

Hi again @SellingKnickers . Mystery solved. Yes, your posts mentioning a specific website will have been deleted but this one didn't break our Talk Guidelines. The issue was that you'd posted in 'Flexible Working' which is actually for people advertising jobs, and your post was being hidden as it wasn't an ad. We've moved it over to 'work' for you now. Selling underwear online | Mumsnet

Going to try this again and hopefully it won't be deleted this time! (Not mentioning the website name.) I have recently joined a website which a...

Yup, wtaf. So many posters on here in dire straits, really this is the kind of thing you want?

I thought Pervert’s Corner was the sex topic.

Yeah I really didn't write it well.

MN is full of posts from women in real financial difficulty. I don't think it's in line with the MN ethos (pre-sex topic anyway) to host a thread that encourages them to make a few quid by selling their old underwear to pervs.

But if they're in financial dire straits?

But if they're in financial dire straits?

I saw your thread and figured it was that you used a link, it feels like there's been a few threads or comments to women who are skint to sell dirty knickers or use only fans for income and they remain, I don't judge anyone going into sex work but what I do worry about is vulnerable women falling into it because they're financially desperate and ending up harmed.

I had a friend who dabbled in some forms of sex work when she was much younger, including selling dirty knickers and sex chat phone work, she was desperate financially which made her very vulnerable and she would never ever recommend anyone else do it.

She thought it would be as straightforward as a bloke searching on website, choosing the knickers and her sending them off but it's not, there's an expectation to interact and chat to the men, many wanted photos of her wearing the knickers and when she realised that compromised her anonymity she felt powerless because she was desperate and many men know that any women in sex work are desperate for money and exploit that.

£20 for a pair of dirty knickers sounds like easy money but the hours spent on "customer interaction" and building up a client base was not easy money at all and it was the opposite of empowering for her, and made her mental health even worse than when she started.

That's why I think a lot of MNers (myself included) don't like it being casually suggested as income on this site to women who are desperate and are asking for ways to make money quick and because I think decisions like going into sex work needs a clear head and not something to rush into, someone desperate and vulnerable may not have the clear head needed to make big decisions like that.
