how to retrieve hidden thread

i was following a thread late last night about a shaken baby.
i must have hovered too long over its title in the active list and it has disappeared.
tried going into topics and threads but my list there is thousands long and doesn't seem to start with the most recently hidden.
is there any way i can keep reading it.
thanks.

Hi @alexdgr8 - we think this is the thread you were looking at.

We take your point about the list of hidden threads being a bit hard to navigate if you've hidden thousands of them. We'll have a think about ways we can improve this.

wow ! thank you so much.
the magic behind the scenes.
re the thousands of hiddens, i'd never gone on that section before and was flummoxed. because i didn't recognise the one i wanted in the few words quoted, i assumed it was listed backwards, with oldest first.
so i started trying to press reload to get to the beginning of over 34K hidden threads !
i never knew they would be lurking somewhere like that.
is there any way of deleting them en masse, say after a week ?
also, should i not be hiding so many from the active list ?
i thought it was the thing to do, so they didn't keep clogging up my active list, and i miss something interesting.
as you can probably tell i don't really understand all this...

Many thanks anyway for your prompt response. i shall get back to reading the retrieved thread.

Hi there @alexdgr8. Glad you've got the thread back. We'll discuss your points about hidden threads here, but probably we'd be unlikely to 'undelete' them after a week, just because if people have hidden them, it's usually for a good reason and they won't want to see the thread back again.

You can of course use the function however you wish, but from what you've said, it does sound like you're hiding a lot of threads and it might be easier to navigate if you just hide the threads you really don't want to see. Active threads change so quickly anyway, it's unlikely you'd miss anything by not hiding threads once you've read them.

You can unhide the threads too in your settings. This link should take you there: https://www.mumsnet.com/settings/hidden-threads

thank you for your reply.
but you have misunderstood what i was asking about the thousands of hidden ones.
i don't want to undelete them.
i want to have them gone, permanently, say after a week, so if ever i am looking for something i have hidden again, it is not lost among thousands.
even if i stop hiding ones now, there are still thousands lurking there, which i would rather were not.
but it doesn't really matter. anyway thanks.

It would make more sense for the hidden threads to run from most recently hidden, rather than having to page through zillions to get to the last page and find the latest one you hid and want to unhide.

@HebeMumsnet @JoMumsnet Please enable us to have them in order. I don’t care if they’re in active ‘and it moves so fast anyway’, I don’t want to see them. A lot of long running threads are always in active, eg Coronation Street, Emmerdale, as soon as they get to 1000 posts they get replaced. People have been pointing this out to you for a long time now.

basically, i would just like to be able to delete the deletions.
not reverse them, but get rid of them totally, like you can do with emails.
otherwise they are cluttering up, and if i do try to find a thread i deleted in error, it is almost impossible to find it among tens of thousands.
i was deleting everything not of interest to me in the active list, so they didn't keep appearing, so i could get to the interesting ones.
i had no idea that they would be lurking somewhere in perpetuity, with no facility for further, permanent deletion.
