Why are you making fun of someone's appearance with your logo change

Reasonableadjustments · 06/05/2023 06:50

Can I ask why you've changed the logo to be big ears to poke fun at King Charles?

I'm not a royalist but I don't think making fun of someone like this for their appearance is really fair.

I like the logo. I Like to think KC has a GSOH about his ears. Nothing to be ashamed of so why would he mind ?

Seriously?
You have a very warped perspective.

Lol. Watching peoples leaping to defend an over privileged mans ears is even funnier.

I suspect people are just disappointed that people still find other peoples appearances humorous rather than feeling sorry for him or whatever else. MN pull plenty of threads that are people having valid opinions on people's actions because they're 'not in the spirit of the site' yet this is fine?

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 06/05/2023 09:09

Having known several family members who were upset as children because they were teased for sticking out ears I agree: ok for eg the Times to do this, but not Mumsnet where we are focused on supporting children.

very bad judgment call MNHQ. I wish you would remove it right now.

If people are leaping to defend the ears, then the majority here must unconsciously think that big ears are a bad thing.

Examine that unconscious bias people...

Not at all.

It's not ok to make fun of anyone because of how they look.

Would you laugh at me for walking oddly?

What if the new monarch was a fat woman? Would you be entirely happy to see the Mn logo turned into a mockery of her shape?

Honestly, you are missing the point spectacularly.

No we just know that over the years Charles has been teased for his ears.

They're not a bad thing, but they have long been a physical characteristic people have been bullied for- nice try at faux naieveity though.

Give over. We all know Charles is mocked for his ears. We also know he was bullied for his ears. The logo has ears bigger than the crown. No physical features should be called out.

But by highlighting one physical feature like that it gives the idea that it is something to be ashamed of and mocked otherwise why do it at all?

You're very brave. Grin

rule of thumb, when there's a lot of snarly posts on one thread, better just to swerve it.

PMSL!

But I think it's good for there to be a plurality of opinions and mumsnet too often displays very niche echo-chamber thinking. I don't think anyone in real life outside the opportunity for a gleeful social media pile-on would take offence, least of all Charles Windsor. Worse mockery of him is seen every week in your daily paper. Mumsnet were clearly trying to be affectionate which is more offensive to me cos I'm a republican.

Childish ,cheap. Take it down .

Ah, right here. Do you think people should feel sorry for him because of his ears?

Why?

What's wrong with his ears?

They're just a pair of slightly larger than average ears.

Very identifiable to Charles.

But not a reason to feel sorry for him. Unless you think oversized ears are bad.

Which I don't.

Tirrrrred · 06/05/2023 09:11

What were they thinking?

Totally inappropriate. I'm embarrassed for them!!

CalloohCallayFrabjousDay · 06/05/2023 09:11

@mnhq it's actually really disrespectful and amounts to bullying to pick out a personal feature like that.
Why on earth was that allowed?!?

Sirzy · 06/05/2023 09:10

Why on earth would anyone think that?

Yet you went straight there.

Why?

Do you think that?

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 06/05/2023 09:12

I agreed until I saw the prearranged protesters being bundled into a van. Now I think it’s fine

PinkCast · 06/05/2023 09:12

I agree it's very school boy mean, and I'm not British so usually don't pay any attention to royal stuff.
I've seen a few threads on the topic, but no MNHQ comment. I'd like hear their explanation for why they think this is OK.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 06/05/2023 09:13

Great posts lljkk and Jonei

Jonei · 06/05/2023 09:13

People are so funny here. Anyway I'm not going to waste the day debating his ears. 3 days off. Thanks Charles. I'm off to enjoy it. 👋 👑👂

I’m more concerned about the conscious bias I experienced when I was tormented by my bullies.

Reasonableadjustments · 06/05/2023 09:14

@Jonei I think that because I have a physical difference for which I've been bullied all my life and I don't think it's ever ok. And it's public knowledge that Charles was bullied a lot because of the size of his ears.

Why? Do you think Charles arranged for them to be arrested? Even if he said his demands the police response could have overruled him. Its not his choice and moreover not the choice of his ears.

Jonei · 06/05/2023 09:12

Because that is the actual lived experience of many people. There is a reason bullies focus on physical differences.

FrenchFancie · 06/05/2023 09:29

I’m with the OP - I have a few physical characteristics that I’ve been bullied for, and still lead to unkind bullying and comments now (I have albanism, so I have a pretty severe squint despite two rounds of corrective surgery, a head tilt and very pale skin / hair. Teenagers and some older children can make hurtful comments, and I’ve grown quite a thick skin over the years to deal with it. It’s not OK to mock people for physical features they can do nothing about.

if you want to mock the king, attack class privilege, attack some of his more questionable quotes or doings over the years, but sending the message that it’s ok to mock physical difference is a low move from a parenting website.

i know it’s a Saturday but I’m surprised that no-on @MNHQ is picking up on this….?
