New Feature - link previews

Hello everyone

Today we have introduced a new feature on web to give users the ability to see link previews when posting a link into a post. This will display some basic info from the link such as an image, page title and description of the link being shared and this preview will be displayed at the bottom of your post. See here for an example. The hope is that this gives you more visibility over links being shared before you decide to click them.

When you post the link you can choose to delete the link preview if you'd prefer and if you are posting multiple links only one preview will display and you can change which preview displays.

Although, to prevent posts looking too messy if you post an image or a GIF into a post, the preview link will not display also.

At the moment the link previews will not display on apps or on links posted in the app, but we we'll be looking to introduce it to the app at a later date.
As always, we’d very much appreciate your feedback, good and bad.

Thanks MNHQ

It doesn't "give users ability" it forces them into it and clutters up the screen with huge pictures which are totally unnecessary.

I think it"s terrible.

You should take it off youtube links. It looks silly having the embedded video and then a giant thumbnail underneath of the same video.

Agree with this.

But generally, I think it's a good idea. I don't click on links where it's not clear where they are taking me.

Could the ability to turn this off be added into the Customise settings?

Plus, no one needs a giant picture to tell them what a link is, especially when that picture is often irrelevant.

This isn't working properly MN Admins. I have tried to post links to some fashions in the Style & Beauty area such as this one:
Flare Sleeve Ruche Waist Midi Dress | Coast (coastfashion.com)
I can see the bin icon at the top right of the preview but when I click to delete the preview, it removes the link from my post too.

I haven't clicked on the bin for this post because I wanted you to see what I'm seeing when I post a message using Edge Chromium browser.
It's not a good look to have these half links (as in the link is there but the preview isn't working).
