Hi MNHQ,

Huawei P30 Pro, Chrome mobile site.

The links using and are posting as follows, if the site address is copied via a Google search page. Doesn't seem to happen if the pure URL is used:

<a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.gov.uk/universal-credit/how-to-claim&ved=2ahUKEwiYid_1yaj9AhVfQkEAHSLoDFwQFnoECB8QAQ&usg=AOvVaw0AT69OVQjVUnX9uzJHduCz" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">How to claim

Universal Credit, how to claim

Just thought I'd let you know!

The same thing is happening with links to pages on web.archive.org

<a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20230406121315/www.mumsnet.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://web.archive.org/web/20230406121315/www.mumsnet.com/

Even if you put the link behind a bit of text, like this:

<a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20230406121315/www.mumsnet.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">MUMSNET

I had thought that web archive would get around the problem of Mumsnet automatically hiding posts with links to Archive Today but Web Archive links go doolally now, they didn't used to.

Bosky · 23/04/2023 22:54

@HopeMumsnet is there any chance MN techies could have a look at the problem when posting links to archive sites? See my post immediately above.

HebeMumsnet · 24/04/2023 09:11

Hi @Bosky . We'll ask someone to take a look at that. Thanks!

HebeMumsnet · 24/04/2023 10:13

@Bosky Tech have added this to their to-do list so it should be sorted soon.

Bosky · 24/04/2023 13:18

Thank you!

Bosky · 14/05/2023 14:54

Any news HebeMumsnet?

HebeMumsnet · 15/05/2023 10:42

Hi there @Bosky and others. We've just been back to Tech to check on this and it's not great news, we're afraid. It's turned out to be not so simple a fix as they had hoped so it's going to be a while longer, unfortunately.

We don't have a an ETA for a fix at the moment but we'll update here as soon as there's any news.

Bosky · 15/05/2023 13:50

Thanks HebeMumsnet.

I noticed that someone had found a workaround that stopped web archive links breaking the formatting but I stupidly forgot to ask how she did it. I have tried all sorts of things using html, markdown and old MN code like the method but nothing worked.

Could tech advise of any workaround to stop this happening in the meantime?
