Renaming topics causes problems with the Android app

Mumsnet - If you are going to rename a topic, please think it through properly. Employment Issues was renamed to Work recently. Fine on the website. If I try Employment Issues, it redirects to Work. However, I have Employment Issues as one of my favourites on the Android app. There doesn't appear to be any way to remove it as a favourite (which is bad in itself - I should be able to remove and reorder my favourites rather than being stuck with them in the order I chose them) and tapping it causes the app to crash.

Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention - we're investigating this now but could we ask that you uninstall and reinstall the app? This will ensure that you are running the latest version.

I've checked and I am on 3.38, which is the current version according to Play Store.

I 100% guarantee they will do nothing to fix this. The android app is still in 2006 while they concentrate on the apple app. I've been complaining about it for literally years.

Hi again prh47bridge, thanks for checking. We think there may be a bug on the android app which is preventing people from being able to favourite/ unfavourite topics easily. We're looking into what we can do to resolve this but in the meantime we're sorry for the inconvenience this causes.

I have no problem favouriting and unfavouriting topics. The problem is that, when you change the name of a topic that I have already favourited, there is no option to unfavourite it. That is because unfavouriting a topic isn't something you do in the list of favourites, where it should be. It is in the long list containing all topics. However, since Employment Issues is no longer in the long list of topics due to it being renamed Work, it is not possible to unfavourite it. I was therefore stuck with a Favourite topic that crashed the app if I tapped on it.

I have resolved the issue by uninstalling the app and reinstalling it, which allowed me to set up my favourites from scratch again. But, if you are going to rename topics, the app needs to cope with it much better than it does. Ideally, in the same way the website redirects to the new name, the app should do so.

By the way, the ability to re-order favourites would also be useful. At the moment the only option is to have them in the order in which you favourited them.

Mumsnet, I'm posting on the wrong thread but this is because I cannot start a thread.

I use the app on Android and I cannot start a new thread on it.

I go to the + to start a new thread, it asks me to select a board, I select the board, and then it goes back to the original page.

So I can only post on other people's threads. Can you look at this?

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

I also can't just load up the web page on my phone to do it that way, because it then opens the app by default.

So every time I want to start a thread I have to uninstall the app, start a thread on the web version, then reinstall the app to read and respond (as the web version is very large to move around on a phone).

I've been moaning about this for over a year.... Don't hold your breath

@LilyMumsnet you guys have know about this since at least last January when I sent you a video via email of exactly this issue. Please don't pretend this is the first MNHQ have heard of it!!

If I click a topic in the main list, to try to unadd it, it adds it again in the favourites at the bottom of the list 🙄

Hi everyone. Just wanted to pop in to say thank you again for flagging this. We're working on a fix at the moment regarding the problem with starting new threads on the app, as well as the topic names issue, and will update as soon as there's any news.

We are also building a new app at the moment - there's no date for completion just yet but it's on its way and once that's out you will hopefully not experience nearly so many of these issues with the current app.

My app is basically unusable, constantly crashing and freezing.
