Supplements containing Tricaprin?

8 replies

NumberTheory · 13/01/2023 01:28

This thread has been in trending for days. Really, at least all day yesterday and today, think it was there WEdnesday and Tuesday too. Maybe before. It’s been there so much I eventually clicked on it even though it sounds totally boring!

It has 5 replies. Is the trending algorithm broken? Is there some criteria that explains it?

I've not seen that thread at all which makes me wonder if your cookies are corrupted. Trying logging out and back in, or clear your cache.

NumberTheory · 13/01/2023 02:46

Interesting PixieDust, thank you for responding. It has suddenly disappeared for me now, but I have followed your suggestion and tried logging out and logging back in anyway. I’ll see if it comes back and if so try clearing my cache.

Same thing has happened to me! (I also have a thread about it in SiteStuff). I've cleared my cookies and cache, to no avail. It's not always there, but it comes back multiple times a day.

Hi @NumberTheory - thanks very much for flagging this to us. We're taking a look behind the scenes to see what's going on.

Thanks again for raising this, OP.

We've checked our analytics and can see that we've had a high number of US views to this thread in the past 24 hours, which could explain why it was cropping up in Trending (which shows the most-viewed threads at any time).

In the past hour we've also had someone join to post a spam link (to a US drug company) on this very thread...Hmm

Anyway, we'll make sure the thread doesn't appear in the Trending box again!

NumberTheory · 13/01/2023 16:08

Thanks @JoMumsnet

I’m also in the US at the moment, does that make a difference to the Trending threads I see? Or is it just that US traffic seems to be finding that thread and made it more “popular” for all of us?

@Nancydrawn sorry I didn’t see your thread!

@JoMumsnet

It strikes me that an algorithm that uses views regardless of engagement in the thread is ripe for abuse by spammers - seems like it would be relatively easy to set up scripts to try to bump something into trending.
