Why has the Spanish cleaner thread been hidden?!

TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz · 08/11/2022 20:41

Please don’t tell me this was a troll. We were all so invested!

Plus, why WOULD it be a troll? It didn’t seem troll-flavoured.

OR has the cleaner asked for it to be removed?

It seems to have been marked as ‘hidden’ for a long time without any confirmation of it being removed…

OP posts:

Maybe the l cleaner was actually Hilaria Baldwin. She has form for that, hasn't she?

pimlicoanna · 08/11/2022 23:35

It did seem like a classic troll post trying to keep people invested.

Acatnamedfox · 08/11/2022 23:46

I was watching and waiting on that thread to, a little bit of harmless fun unlike the recent other trolls on here recently which Mumsnet haven’t been so quick to sort out..

My fave retort was that the OP mistook something she said for Spanish one day and then the cleaner was to awkward to correct her..

That hypothetical scenario really tickled me.

ElizabethBest · 08/11/2022 23:49

Was it Hilaria Baldwin?

SavingsThreads · 11/11/2022 18:21

@LilyMumsnet what does 'concerns about a poster' mean please?

Propertyporn · 11/11/2022 18:29

Hmm... I'm a cleaner and lived abroad for 10 years (not Spain though) and sometimes revert back to broken English when speaking to certain people. I've also got face blindness so will never recognise someone if I run into them in a random place. The thread was obviously about me 😁

LilyMumsnet · 11/11/2022 19:48

It means that we're not quite sure someone is posting with good intentions - so we have a closer look!

thatTimeof · 11/11/2022 19:52

my ending would be that the cleaner turned up and whilst cleaning the bathroom the OP heard loud splashing and on opening the door found the cleaner had transformed into a sea serpent and was contaminating the water ….. !

Could Sophia, (should be Sofía but he ho) be a method actress? Yes I think so. Sofía really is Keira Knightley researching for her rôle in the searingly honest 2023 blockbuster later known as 'Sofía and Henry' about a brave Spanish woman who emigrates to the UK to work as a cleaner in the homes of cruel and exploitative Englishwomen, but meets and falls in love with the tubby and jovial Henry H. who helps her clean in order to conquer her heart. Henry is not a looker and also rather noisy but Sofía ends up unable to envisage her life without him. On Wednesday morning Penelope/Sofía comes clean (😏) to OP. OP shows compassion and humour to KN and shrieks of laughter seal their new friendship. Later KN insists that OP accompanies her to the Oscars, where 'Sofía and Henry' is a triumph, then on they go to the Vanity Fair party, where OP is discovered by Andy Cohen who immediately signs her up for 16 seasons of The Housewives of Montecito.
The End.

That's I was thinking as I remember Renee Zellweger working undercover at a London publishing agency whilst prepping for Bridget Jones.
No one had a clue who she was.

Thats the thing with famous people in real life, they don't look like themselves well the self that they we see on TV/Film/Magazines etc.

But what do you look for? What makes you worry enough the poster isn't genuine to hide it?

When asked this in the past MNHQ used to say ‘TSSDNCOP’ (The Secret Service does not comment on procedure’) meaning they don’t want to say what they look for etc as it’ll make it easier to troll this place.

H34th · 11/11/2022 22:29

A Spanish cleaner in the U.K.?

Definitely a fictional story. They were thinking a Latina in the States.

Smidge001 · 11/11/2022 22:50

Can't HQ just move the thread to a special section for made up stories when they get suspicious? That way we can still be entertained but know not to believe it too much.... I'm with @TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz , it was quite an entertaining thread (other posters' comments as much as the original post).

Wauden · 11/11/2022 23:37

I need to know what happened!

SantaOnFanta · 11/11/2022 23:43

At end of day, it was harmless fun even if made up. Shame it got deleted.

AuntieDickhead · 11/11/2022 23:58

Wasn't there a bit on the DMC series called AIBU where her new friend had been mistaken for a cleaner...

Oh no. Hang on. She thought the friend lived in a house but she was actually just the cleaner. So actually not the same thing at all. Never mind.

I think if troll posts are allowed to stay up then it just opens the floodgates for all sorts of nonsense, and means the trolls are winning. MNHQ can't say 'well some trolls are ok, where does it end?

Pineappleblueberry · 12/11/2022 05:40

My mum and her sister look very very alike, different dress sense but same hair and build and features. They haven't spoken to each other in a long time over a fall out.
They often get mistaken for one another and my mums very nice and chatty with the people who stop her to say hello and explains they must have mistaken her for her sister ( over the course of the last 20 years its happened numerous times), but my auntie is apparently rude and huffy wth people, a few have commented to my mum that they'd seen her in such a such place and she'd blanked them or rolled her eyes etc..when my mum hadn't been those places so we realised it was her sister.

That's a really good idea and if they do so allow for shameless troll hunting and rigorous examination of why it might be one. If the OP sticks around and gives as good as it gets then it can make for fun threads.

SantaOnFanta · 12/11/2022 23:40

My interpretation of a troll is someone who posts things for a reaction in a negative way. This story was just harmless fun, I don't see how that is trolling.
