We know it's fake! Leave it alone!

I am more than aware that a lot of threads are fake. But if the discussion is good it's enjoyable. Why delete it? This place has seriously gone down hill compared to previous years. There's no good threads, the app is falling apart and then anything good that does arrive you zap!

Just leave it up!

BIWI · 09/10/2022 13:34

Absolutely not. All that does is encourage more trolling. And where do you draw the line?

There's more than enough stuff posted here all the time, so no need for made up bollocks.

Not if its a normal discussion. There are always going to be fake posts. Half of classics is BS.
But if it gets an actual interesting conversation going then leave it be. Better then half the repeated boring stuff that's clogging active

Yay lets leave all those oh so funny attention seeking trolls to peddle their take a break shit for the Pom Pom wavers
cos that'll make the site pure quality won't it
🙄

A580Hojas · 09/10/2022 14:18

I don't agree.

The site isn't any fun any more, true. Everyone is miserable. But having a lot of rubbish on Mumsnet is even more depressing than that.

Blondbombsite · 09/10/2022 14:23

I agree with the OP. Troll threads that beg, are pervy or are about sensitive issue which could upset people, should be deleted. People making up shit about school mums, weddings or pom bears, I don’t care. I assume even real threads are exaggerated or we get told a highly edited version anyway.

CuriousCatfish · 09/10/2022 14:26

If MNHQ leave obvious fake threads up them they should allow troll hunting comments.

You can't really allow one without the other.

This is what I mean. Obvious troll is obvious.

But some random drama that is actually plausible. Leave it up. Nobody would know until MN pipe up.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 09/10/2022 15:06

Are you being serious? I mean on your watch you would have people responding to suicide threads, pregnancy threads etc all just for the sake of entertainment? get a grip ffs.

If you dont like how the site is run you could always pop over elsewhere.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 09/10/2022 15:09

And 'We know its fake' maybe some of us old timers do but a lot of newer posters do not and then end up genuinely upset over sharing something they thought would actually help the troll in question.

Phos · 09/10/2022 15:47

MN do seem a bit delete-happy at the moment.

I don't care if they're fake either, I really don't see why people get so wound up about it. If someone really feels the need to make up a situation/thread, then let them. I don't buy the genuinely upset about sharing something, it's a public site, anyone can see what you put on here. If you're going to get oversensitive, don't share.

BIWI · 09/10/2022 15:55

FFS. It's delete-happy at the moment because there are so many bloody trolls! Which is what you/the OP seem to want. You can't have it both ways!

Absolutely agree with @Hobnobswantshernameback (as usual) and @A580Hojas. All the trolling is completely spoiling the site.

MK19590 · 09/10/2022 15:55

I was reading some old threads in classics recently to fill time on a long train journey. It occurred to me that over half of them would have been deleted in a matter of hours if posted today

This. I’ve felt like namechanging more than once because I shared something to help an OP in good faith only to learn it was a troll, and it takes a toll on those of us trying to help who get caught in the crossfire of a bunfight we don’t understand then we get namechecked for hours by angry people. All because of trolls.

Phos · 09/10/2022 16:09

I genuinely have wondered when we see a "We've taken it down so we can take a look behind the scenes" message - what do they actually do?

So they should have been tbf.
Fat balls? Yeah right.
Korean ladies? Yeah right
PB- oh fuck off you sex troll.

OP- where are we going to draw your line then? Who gets to decide who is a fun lying troll and who isn't?

BIWI · 09/10/2022 16:23

Absolutely @PAFMO - and we all know what happened after the infamous PB thread.

That's the problem. These supposedly light-hearted threads just encourage more and more trolls, so we have the situation we're in now, where MN is troll city.

RoseyPalm · 09/10/2022 16:55

It's like seeing a dress across a room, you can't see the seams that join fact and exaggeration. Sometimes though, the hem is completely unfinished and hanging down.
I just read the thread about the likelihood of our Prime Minister supporting Putin.
That has just influenced my view.

Hearthnhome · 09/10/2022 17:02

That would be fine for the non serious or dangerous ones if some posters didn't then start to claim them know the Op is genuine. There was one this week. Talking to Op in Dms giving support, claiming they knew it was genuine and shame on everyone else for upsetting the poor pregnant woman. Even after MNhq posted to say they were deleting the thread as op was a persistent troll, because they hadn't seen the Mnhq post, still defending.

I assume the same posters are the ones giving money on begging threads claiming 'I would rather be scammed than see someone go without', ignoring the fact that them giving money attracts more people to do it.

Trolls love firing up a defender.

There was some good Information and links on the thread regarding mat leave, though.

PurpleWisteria · 09/10/2022 17:04

The troll hunters are far more annoying than the trolls.

paintitallover · 09/10/2022 17:10

I think delete too. It's definitely true that the place has become so much more "take a break".

CuriousCatfish · 09/10/2022 17:22

Only to the trolls.

BIWI · 09/10/2022 17:25

If some posters weren't so gullible and naive, there wouldn't be any need for trollhunting!

Rogue1001MNer · 09/10/2022 18:03

I'd also add determined.

I was on a thread the other day where nearly half the posts on the first page were warning it wasn't genuine and not to share stories.

Guess what the other half were...

SOme like the maternity leave threads that were on a day or so ago actually had some useful information in them (Pregnant Then Screwed as a charity for example) that when deleted you do lose if someone searches
