Trouble using shortcuts

Breathmiller · 18/08/2022 12:46

Hi MNHQ et al

When I use the shortcuts when posting (bold or underline or italics etc) the format after I use it goes haywire.

eg. when I type the first two words afterwards, as in when I go back to normal writing I can't get a capital or a space between these two first words. Then a little further into the sentence it just randomly goes back to bold or italics. It seems to muck something up when I've used it.

A minor annoyance but annoying all the same. Is this happening for anyone else ?

Hi OP

Can you let us know what device and browser you're using to access Mumsnet? Although it's a faff, a screen recording would be really helpful to us. We're keen to see/replicate what's going on here. Are you able to email one over to us?

MoovingOn · 18/08/2022 13:14

lilymumsnetiaamon a mobile via Google. I'm afraid I don't know how to do a screen recording, I'm a bit of a technical luddite. But this explains it.

So basically I clicked bold ON for your name above (turned the shortcut blue). The clicked it OFF ( shortcut back to black). Then it didn't allow me the space between the first 3 words (which should have read "I am on..."and then it clicked on again into bold of its own accord mid sentence.

Does that help at all?

Breathmiller · 18/08/2022 13:15

Sorry name change fail. I told you I was a technical luddite 😁

Hi OP

Is this an android or IOS phone? Google chrome browser? Any screenshots would be really useful! Don't worry - we'll get to the bottom of it. Grin

Breathmiller · 18/08/2022 14:16

Haha...okay.
Errrr...my phone is a Samsung (blue if that helps 🤣) and I have no clue what browser.

I'll speak to my teenager technical advisor and get back to you after he stops laughing at me.

Haha, ask him if he can help screen record the issue and email it to us at [email protected].

You never know! 😬

Breathmiller · 18/08/2022 14:50

Will do. Thanks

Hello!

We haven't got it yet - can we double check you sent it to [email protected] ? If there's a file attached, it might take a few minutes so we'll sit tight!

LilyMumsnet · 18/08/2022 16:51

P.S can you try clearing your cache?

If you don't know how to clear your cache, you can find instructions on how to do it here: www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser%27s-Cache

Hi again Breathmiller - unfortunately we still haven't received an email from you. Can you try re-sending it please? (And can you please check if the email address you've sent it from is the same as the one registered to your Mumsnet account)?

Thanks in advance! (And thanks for confirming that you've cleared your cache).

Breathmiller · 26/08/2022 12:03

Thanks JoMumsnet

Ive had a look and not sure what else I can do. I'll just leave it. I have gone back to using the asterisks old school style and that works for me.
