STOP! You are constantly crashing my chromebook....

Please can you urgently check your site - it is constantly crashing my ASUS Chromebook (running chrome). If I leave the window open with mumsnet for more than around 1/2 hour my Chromebook freezes and I have to do a full restart!

Hi @DuchessofAnkh77 we're sorry about that. We'd like to try and replicate the issue. Could you please let us know what version of ChromeOS your ASUS is running? You can find this in Settings > About ChromeOS.

Could you also let us know if this is happening on other sites? And do you see an error message at any point?

Version 103.0.5060.114 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Thanks for that @DuchessofAnkh77 we'll take a look and get back to you as soon as we can. Did you recently update to this version of Chrome0S and, if so, has the crashing happened since then?

takeitandleaveit · 16/07/2022 12:43

On a Chromebook here too, Acer, and yes, the whole thing just grinds to a halt, especially if I'm reading a long thread, or God forbid, attempting to post on one.

There's definitely something about MN, because it doesn't happen with anything else I use my Chromebook for.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 16/07/2022 15:11

Thanks @takeitandleaveit. We'll look into this.

Celeryfavour · 16/07/2022 15:30

Similar happens to me on my android phone using chrome. It's been happening since the site update. It's okay while I'm actively scrolling, but if I stop to do something else for a bit, when I come back it's frozen.

LAWinterofOurDiscountTents · 12/09/2022 18:44

Same on my chromebook AND my PC! Freezes the whole thing up, I have to restart the PC. WTF is up with it?

gamesconsoler · 12/09/2022 18:45

Same happens on both of my Chromebooks

Rowgtfc72 · 19/09/2022 13:26

Same here. Android and chrome.
If I bookmark it freezes. Write a post it freezes. I can read threads just not interact. Have to open a new mumsnet page on chrome.
Doesn't happen on any other websites.
Surprised its let me post this.

DuchessofAnkh77 · 20/09/2022 16:00

Happens on my laptop too.

LilyMumsnet · 20/09/2022 16:34

Hello

We're really sorry that this is still happening.
If you get a moment, would you mind clearing your cache?
If you don't know how to clear your cache, you can find instructions on how to do it here: www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser%27s-Cache

Please let us know how it goes.

DuchessofAnkh77 · 21/09/2022 09:49

@LilyMumsnet Yes have already done this, I do it regularly...Basically if I leave a window open with mumsnet for more thank circa 12 hours (so like look in the morning then go out to work then home, the chromebook will crash when I try to look at the tab again.

Hi again @DuchessofAnkh77,

Could we ask if you have your threads customised to 1,000 posts per page? Many Chromebooks have a limited amount of memory so it might just be that they aren't coping with the bigger threads.

We've had quite a few users on various devices find that switching to 25 or 50 posts per page stops this being a problem. Obviously you're then having to click for next page each time, so it's not a perfect solution but it seems to be much quicker than threads taking ages to load and then crashing. If you find you change it to 25 posts and that's working, you can always experiment with 50 posts per page and higher and see how you go.

Let us know if that helps anyway. And give us a shout if you need any help customising to fewer posts per page.

Rowgtfc72 · 25/09/2022 07:05

Cleared my cache. Still can't post on threads I'm watching. Strangely enough I can post on this one. It's not on my watch list though.
It's so glitchy. I can't reply to people, post pictures.
There's no point if I can't actually use Mumsnet for what it was set up to do.

Can we just check how many posts you're viewing per page? It's worth changing this in talk settings as generally, this seems to solve the issue. Let us know either way!

CurlUpAndDye · 26/09/2022 19:36

Same for me OP

Rowgtfc72 · 26/09/2022 19:46

I've had to go down to 100 per page to make it less glitchy which is really irritating.
All was fine before the update.
