Threads I'm Watching

DinasCopUniform · 14/07/2022 10:55

Haven't been on MN for a few days, because it's driving me mad with all the glitches. I've logged on this morning, and TIW is showing what looks like every thread I've ever watched for 17 years 🙄

Is this happening for anyone else?

KangarooKenny · 14/07/2022 10:57

Yes, me too 😂

LimesandClementines · 14/07/2022 10:58

Same here no matter how many times I unwatch them, has been the same for ages. IOS app.

DinasCopUniform · 14/07/2022 11:01

Phew, at least it's not just me! I'm very strict with my TIW housekeeping, and it's making me angry 😂
I'm on the mobile app, Android, using Chrome.

I also keep getting a pop up asking if I want to download something - on iPad - it’s really irritating.

DinasCopUniform · 14/07/2022 11:05

I'm getting so fed up with all this here. It's just a shambles.

Yes, just seen this! Please change it back, mnhq, it's unusable like this!
Also my phone keypad has been really slow and glitchy (android, Firefox, mobile browser version of site). It seems to be only on MN so is this something you can look into?

KangarooKenny · 14/07/2022 11:14

The lay out seems to have changed in the last hour, maybe it’s something to do with that ?

HyggeTygge · 14/07/2022 11:15

Yes it's the layout that's driving me mad, sorry. Can't seem to see any deleted/ removed threads yet.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 14/07/2022 11:17

Hello @DinasCopUniform and everyone - is the watched threads issue just on the app or are you also seeing it on mobile/desktop?

butterflied · 14/07/2022 11:19

Seeing it on Android phone with Chrome. Very strange.

KatyMumsnet · 14/07/2022 11:37

Just jumping in on this one!

We restricted this shortly after the re-platforming so that threads you watched over a year ago would drop off the list. But we had feedback at the time from a number of users who want to see old watched threads so we removed the restriction.

It's been this way since just after the re-platforming and we've just released a change so you can remove the threads from your list if you no longer want to see them there.

HyggeTygge · 14/07/2022 11:38

Rubbish new layout is on android mobile browser, Firefox, for me

HyggeTygge · 14/07/2022 11:39

@KatyMumsnet the issue for me is the layout, not old threads appearing

KatyMumsnet · 14/07/2022 11:41

@HyggeTygge what is the problem with the layout?

EmmaH2022 · 14/07/2022 11:42

Ooh this is annoying
so I have to delete them all?

display very odd too, uses a lot of space.

KatyMumsnet · 14/07/2022 11:52

@EmmaH2022 We lifted time restrictions on threads I'm watching in response to feedback from users who wanted to see old threads in that list - they've been there since April.

We understand that not everyone will want this and so you can now remove the threads from your list if you want to by clicking on the three dot menu next to the title of the thread.

The layout is also paginated, so you’ll only see the most recent watched threads unless you click through to the old pages.

kingsleysbootlicker · 14/07/2022 11:55

I'm on a Windows laptop, using Firefox. I now don't have the option to right click and open in new tab anymore, which is how I usually go through my Watching list. I'm still able to do it elsewhere on the site. I'm also finding that when I click on an updated post, it's taking me to the last updated comment rather than where I've bookmarked on the thread

KatyMumsnet · 14/07/2022 11:58

@kingsleysbootlicker thanks for this feedback, we will look in to this!

kingsleysbootlicker · 14/07/2022 12:01

Thank you Smile

KatyMumsnet · 14/07/2022 12:13

@kingsleysbootlicker we're going to fix the title links so that you will be able to right click to a new tab.

Clicking through to the last read post is the expected behaviour on the watched thread list, as the purpose of it is to show you the updates since you last saw the thread. If bookmarks took priority then it might be confusing for many users who have added an older bookmark but are expecting to click through to read the latest updates.

We are working on a new feature idea that will allow you to store your bookmarks in a list so you can find them again - this sounds more like what you'd like?

kingsleysbootlicker · 14/07/2022 12:38

It always used to take you to your bookmarked post, that way you could read down from where you left off. It worked well for me because once threads are well established, I bookmark the last post of the OP, so that when I open the thread I can see right away whether any of the new posts are from them. I don't know what you mean by storing bookmarks in a list but hopefully that will help. Tbh, I'm much less likely to go back to old threads at all if I can't see quickly if any recent posts are from the OP or not

lizziebizie · 14/07/2022 12:40

On the app.

I noticed threads with new posts 'threads I'm on' are being bumped to the top of the list. This is a big improvement for me as I lose and forget some old threads.

lizziebizie · 14/07/2022 12:41

I noticed that just today.

HyggeTygge · 14/07/2022 17:02

KatyMumsnet · 14/07/2022 11:41

@HyggeTygge what is the problem with the layout?

Well currently I can't even get to TIW- the page won't load (assuming this is due to tinkering!) - I'm on a laptop now, on Firefox.

But TIO seems similar - the text of the posts is as big as the text of the thread title etc, it's harder to click on the individual post in the preview to go to it - I can't remember the 'old' layout but it was far easier to use. I can now only preview two posts instead of 3. Basically I can see fewer threads (condensed) in one screen as everything takes up more space, so have to scroll a lot more.
TIW should be a quick view of current threads so I can open them up to view properly. It would be really great if it could go back to how it was yesterday.

I must hold my hands up and say I didn't like the initial changes, losing 'bump and reset' etc but had really got used to the changes and thought they were for the better in the end! Please don't change them again!

toastofthetown · 14/07/2022 17:45

I'm not a lover of the new format either. It takes up loads of space, the previous version only showed a set number of characters rather than the whole post and that's enough really. Pretty sure also the old version showed three posts rather than two, which was better for me. Seeing a little of more posts is better than seeing less of fewer. You aren't going to catch up on a whole thread that way anyway, so might as well have it take up less room.
