Dear MN Towers, could we consider moving the Buying and selling listings to a separate board?

Well.....could we?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 17/01/2008 20:33

yes, agreed, report them aitch

SEA I don't agree that what you are saying makes sense. It doesn't to me.

SoupDragon · 17/01/2008 20:33

I don't believe that even half the selling Huns are simply selling their own used stuff.

Aitch · 17/01/2008 20:34

well i personally think all the pictrail stuff is abusing the system so i'd stop that for a start, put everyone on a level pegging again.

southeastastra · 17/01/2008 20:35

it isn't fair because so many hide the threads.

Pannacotta · 17/01/2008 20:35

I do use the classifed boards (as well as posting lots generally on here), mainly the wanted boards if I see someone wanting something I no longer need, but do agree that it has all got a bit out of hand.

It would be nice if the for sale board was as MN intended, a place to sell on unwanted things. I don't know what can be done about the trader type posters and the endless bumping, but it is a shame as it does spoil things a bit for others...

Aitch · 17/01/2008 20:37

no, neither do i soupy. i just cannot believe that people are such inept shoppers that they overbuy to such an extent. and if, as is often the proferred excuse, people's aunties and relatives buy clothes for kids etc then more money would be made by returning them to the store. (it's always store-brand clothes that are BNWT). so why don't they? and in such large numbers? i know what i think...

Whizzz · 17/01/2008 20:39

I pointed that out to someone as they said it was an unwanted Xmas pressie still with tags on. Even though I said they could take it back to the shop & swap for vouchers, they still preferred to sell it for apparantly £5 less than it was worth??

FrannyandZooey · 17/01/2008 20:39

I am seeing your point aitch

everyone else on here a bit rabid IMO

I often suspect this of being sheer snobbery

controlfreakyhunnibabe · 17/01/2008 20:41

"and another thing, a genuine enquiry.... where do you all you sellers GET all this brand new with tags stuff from?? it cant all be unwanted xmas presents.... are you running businesses? is it all knock off? seriously....."

i asked them, as you can see, but i got no answers..... www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1910/458607?stamp=080117195631

Aitch · 17/01/2008 20:43

frank [reasonable]

totally, whizz, it's often shops like next where you can basically take back stuff for a full credit note with no difficulties. or don't most relatives get gift receipts for people as well now?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/01/2008 20:50

I'm with the OP.

Hunker - am PMSL at your posts

QuintessentialShadow · 17/01/2008 20:53

Hang on. I havent read the whole thread, but I have recently had to actually use the classifieds board and sold some stuff. Thank goodness the buying and selling crowd was there, otherwise I would not have been able to sell anything?

QuintessentialShadow · 17/01/2008 20:54

And, now the buying and selling crowd is there to annoy people, they dont have to get their bees in the bonnet and knickers (saleable or not) in a twist with the rest of us? or other fluffier boards? NOBODY has berated glitter and tickers and hunnibunni fluff for ages!

Peace and calm.

Zippi · 17/01/2008 20:57

i think most people who want to buy and sell look

if l;ike me you couldnt give a toss you hide

buy and sell are the only threads i hide

so i don't think fairness comes into it

most people just arent interested

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/01/2008 20:57

Oh fgs cod - hide the thread

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/01/2008 20:57

Oh fgs cod - hide the thread

Aitch · 17/01/2008 21:00

cod and QS, i like a bargain as much as the next woman but it's impossible to go through all those pictrails etc. so i don't want to hide it, i just want things listed fairly and legibly and would also prefer not to be buying stolen goods. it's not possible at the moment, so some changes should be made.

VictorianSqualor · 17/01/2008 21:08

QS, you were actually selling stuff you no longer wanted though, just as others on here have mentioned wanting to be able to do, not buying joblots off ebay and selling them on, with a million picture trails, and bumping every ten seconds.

That's the whole point, people who are using them should be able to, without being lost in amongst the people who may as well be 'traders'.

Whizzz · 17/01/2008 21:09

I needed my hard hat on the Market Stall thread - people on there think its quite justified apparantly !

VictorianSqualor · 17/01/2008 21:14

I know whizz, and if we complain it's bullying.

Why can;t the sellers just agree that one thread a week is enough and no continuous bumping or re-sells of joblots?? Surely then it would all be fine??

Oh, I know why, because they won't make money that way.

Mummy2LibbyandEllis · 17/01/2008 21:17

Hello ladies - well I guess I'm one of the 'huns' you are all talking about, and tbh I'm feeling genuinely nervous about posting on this thread.

I have just read the whole thing - I then had to get a coffee so have now probably missed a load - but a lot of it does make sense (yes, even to a hun)

I would happily pay the CAT fee, it makes sense for people to be able to contact each other easier and I actually dont like putting my email address on a public forum.

I'm not a 'hard seller', I have many items that are not required and when I need a few extra pennies, yes I list them on here, but not just on here, I also ebay.

Controlfreaky - I did answer your question on the thread you linked to about the new items I have that I have recently listed. I have not bought a 'joblot' cheap to make a profit from, the items I have are genuinely ones that have been BOUGHT (I once stole a penny sweet when I was 5 years old and got caught, I have never ever stolen again!) and have not been used. I personally dont think that I'm asking the earth for these items - one of them cost me over £50, my boobs are no longer as big as they were, so I listed it on here in the hope that actually someone would wear it, as it seems a shame for it to be sat in the wardrobe (reminding me of what I no longer have lol) I was asking £20 but maybe that was a little too much?

I mainly visit the boards to see what people have to offer and to say hello to the people I have met there. Surely you all have a board you frequent more than you do others?

I'm waffling now and have lost my train of thought, and have no idea where my post was heading! If I remember I will add more

LIZS · 17/01/2008 21:17

That's because they have got so used to it and probably many do so in return. Personally I don't like to see exploitation be it scammers, traders not paying the appropriate fee or the repeat sellers exploitign MN as a marketplace and potentially udnermingin the credibility of the site. Like Soupy I have shopped the more blatant posters in the past although have less time and patience to bother to trawl deliberately atm.

However am in a dilemma over one who does post on other boards but was banned from selling due to such a transgression but has started doing so again - perhaps the ban was shortlived, so giving her the benefit.

Pannacotta · 17/01/2008 21:20

LIZS you should report it. IMO we should all report dubious selling practices, is the only way to stamp it out.

twospecialgirls · 17/01/2008 21:21

so as for picture rails im selling my daughters old clothes and people want to see pics before they buy hence the picture rail !!! wheres the problem
