Are puns against Talk Guidelines?

Are puns now against Talk Guidelines? The thread about the £10 eggs was full of eggshellent puns (much better than my cracking one! 😉 ) but it's been locked by @MNHQ with the following message:
closing it now as there are a lot of posts that break Talkguidelines.

I was enjoying the puns more than the story to be honest!

Didn't see anything wrong with the thread.

CarParkHell · 12/05/2022 19:27

How miserable! What’s happened to this place??

Furries · 12/05/2022 19:27

I came here to see if anyone had queried this! I saw one or two deletions, apart from that it was a great thread and the OP was taking it all in good humour.

I think someone installed a trigger-happy delete/close function when the stupid upgrade happened!

ShadowPuppets · 12/05/2022 19:28

Oh that’s where it’s gone! How bloody weird. There have been a few really weird thread closures lately.

CuriousCatfish · 12/05/2022 19:30

Perhaps the thread wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

Antarcticant · 12/05/2022 19:30

Oh, that was so annoying. I was reading through noting which puns had already done and preparing to come up with a brilliant one and the thread was closed. So MN will never hear my contribution.

NumberTheory · 12/05/2022 19:37

@ImaniMumsnet

Was this a mistake? (It's the 10 for 6 eggs thread)

If it wasn't a mistake could we have an explanation of what broke the rules so we can avoid doing it again? The puns were great!

TraceyLacey · 12/05/2022 19:39

Can we have the thread back please, it was so funny! Who knew there are so many puns about eggs?

GeorgesMarvelousCalpol · 12/05/2022 19:42

Glad I'm not the only one wondering what Guideline was broken? 🤔
Please can it come back @imanimumsnet?

There were a few people disbelieving the OPs story that they were stupid enough to think that eggs would ever cost £10 a box, that her DH was too wet to refuse to pay or that he wasn't hiding some sort of LTB-worthy behaviour so maybe they were considered troll hunting?

Antarcticant · 12/05/2022 19:46

There are some great chicken puns on this thread for fellow pun-lovers:

TooManyPJs · 12/05/2022 19:46

Why is it still visible with just a weird message at the end that makes no sense. I think there's one deleted post in the whole thread!?! Have they left the thread up but stopped commenting? That's new. Not sure I like it. Could end up reading whole threads then realising at the end you can't comment!

FieryPitOfMordor · 12/05/2022 19:52

Also, the notification at the top of the thread when MNHQ have posted seems to have gone. Is this something that happened as part of the upgrade? I liked that feature.

That did disappear with the upgrade and I agree it should be brought back

I was also wondering about why the thread was closed, a really bizarre decision by @imanimumsnet maybe a new person who doesnt understand the site yet

Maybe @justinemumsnet could think about reinstating it

vodkaredbullgirl · 12/05/2022 20:00

Its back

ImaniMumsnet · 12/05/2022 20:06

Hi everyone,

the thread was closed because there were a number of posts that broke guidelines by way of trollhunting the OP and also personal attacks to the OP and their husband. We are mindful that lots of great puns were on the post and was just a bit of fun, but we also had also received a number of reports about the thread too.

Your opinions are important to us so it's back up now and we will delete the posts breaking TGs.

GeorgesMarvelousCalpol · 12/05/2022 20:09

Thank you @ImaniMumsnet 😊 🥚 🍳 🐣
