Where has advanced search gone?

TooManyPJs · 24/04/2022 19:25

Am I being thick? I can't see it anywhere on the new site (I am using chrome on a mac if that's relevant?).

The quick search also doesn't seem to working properly? - if I for instance search for "dishwasher" it brings up three threads - there have DEFINITELY been more than three threads containing the word dishwasher since the beginning of MN!

Anyhow, I mainly want advanced search as I want to search for recent threads.

Thank you!

I must be thick too. I can’t find it either.

Good to hear it's not just me! I was waiting for someone to come on and say "it's there you numpty!".....

It is gone. No longer a feature.

kitchenfitting · 24/04/2022 20:39

Has it been removed deliberately as part of the change or by mistake? Have MN said?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 24/04/2022 20:39

If you click "Filters" on the new search you can search by time, poster and Topic (board?) if that's any help.

Zazdar · 24/04/2022 20:40

Has there been any explanation as to why it is no longer a feature?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 24/04/2022 20:41

But I'm not completely convinced it's working.

kitchenfitting · 24/04/2022 20:45

Not helpful in the type of searches I do like shaws sink or HMKC units or Tikkurila paint. How can we find posts about something we are interested in? Have MN explained why it has been removed as it was the thing I used most. Plus photos are now too small for me to view and for property section etc they were vital.

A580Hojas · 24/04/2022 20:47

There has been another thread on this subject, with almost exactly the same thread title, a few days ago. I don't think HQ have bothered to reply yet.

plinkplinkfizzer · 24/04/2022 20:47

I did a search for dishwasher and there is definitely more than three threads come up .

Manzana · 24/04/2022 20:48

you can type a word or a user name into Search and it will bring up a list of posts

kitchenfitting · 24/04/2022 20:55

It looks like they have merged search and advanced search. i would usually search by a specific date range which you cant now do. Are MN replying to any queries or just not about this?

I can't see any option to filter on my search? Where should it be?

What!?! who thought that was a good idea. People have been asking for better search not no search!

I did look down the site stuff threads but couldn't see any similar threads......and (obviously) I couldn't do a search!

Yes I often used that too, sometimes you want to find recent threads - for example, I just want recent threads with dishwasher recommendations, one's from 2/3 years ago aren't helpful. I can't believe they've managed to make the search function worse than before! I was quite liking the update before this!

I really hope it hasn't gone for good. Mumsnet's quite boring without it.

Yes.

The 4cm wide slider bar in my phone to scroll through TWENTY-TWO YEARS of dates is really useful. 😂

OK, I'm not seeing that on Chrome on my mac - maybe an error then.....

Well, does this mean that folk will find it more difficult to track another poster's posts etc? Maybe the name change feature might not be a necessary anymore.
But I might be wrong, I rarely if ever use the search function anyway. Just read, respond or lurk. That's me. If I find anything that interests me I "watch" the thread.

urbanbuddha · 24/04/2022 23:33

Yes, it does. And I suppose that might be handy to keep any stalkery lurkers at bay but it's not so helpful if you want to see useful and informative posts from PigletJohn or phr37bridge for instance.

Halsall · 25/04/2022 08:24

The search function is now so clunky it’s virtually unusable. I posted about this yesterday. I used Advanced Search a lot, often to find threads I remembered but with not very much information, and I could pretty much always find them. Now - forget it.

The slider bar for dates is just utterly ridiculous. Someone else on another thread pointed out that you have to move it until there’s a fraction of a hair's-breadth on the right if you want to search posts from, say, this year. Completely nonsensical, whereas before you could sensibly enter the date-range.

MNHQ have said they'll get round to ‘everything' but will they fix this? Dunno, but it’s incredibly annoying.

tribpot · 25/04/2022 08:47

I've been wondering about this as well. The search page still exists, but there appears to be no link to it anywhere. I found it by Googling!

Trying going to www.mumsnet.com/search and you should see it

The date sliders are truly dreadful, who on earth did MN hire to build this new site? It's a classic web design fail, like using a calendar widget when people are filling in their date of birth.
