I hadn't realised that mumsnet has seperate subforums for Scottish chatters and Irish chatters but does not have an area specifically for Welsh members.

Wales obviously has many commonalities with the rest of the UK but we are also devolved with our own Parliment and laws and have things that are very different to the other home nations.

The pandemic has put that into the spotlight which led to a number of threads in the covid forum specifically for Wales issues see here for the current one: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4157604-Wales-5?msgid=108875806

Many of us have said we would use a Wales forum - it may not be the most busy part of mumsnet but it would be used and in fairness we really should have parity with the rest of the UK surely?

@thevassal

I've started a post in chat www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4291379-Would-any-welsh-MNs-be-up-for-our-own-subforum

If anyone from here would like to post on there to register interest too?

You missed the "Welshnet:" that Soniamumsnet requested. I assume they'd use it to search for threads...?

(I don't remember them doing it for the others though.)

cosmos1001 · 08/07/2021 13:26

Ia plis / yes please!! :)

TrufflyPig · 08/07/2021 13:26

I'm in! I wanted to start a Welsh Learners thread but was unsure where to put it.

thevassal · 08/07/2021 13:59

@soupdragon yeah I posted it before she said that, and MN HQ didn't tell me to give it a specific title in their email to me. I'm sure it won't matter as it's cross-linked here and has welsh in the title. I think welshnet was less popular than some of the other suggestions.

No I don't remember it for the other regions but do remember a similar thread before the black mumsnetters topics was introduced but perhaps it's a new thing. I think it's quite hard to establish what MN HQ want from a 'test' thread as 'proof' as obviously people will only just put general enthusiasm rather than a proper discussion if it's only asking 'do you want this?'

If the sub-forum was created I'm sure it would then have more discussion as you'd have specific threads like welsh learners, politics, schooling, specific local areas, ideas for holidays/trips out, maybe some debate about welsh-specific issues, etc.

WelshDaffodil · 08/07/2021 16:05

Y Cwtch would be great :)

RickiTarr · 08/07/2021 16:08

@MaudTheInvincible

Ddraignet is a very cool name. I support the idea if only to see that pop up in active!
Just being nosey here, but what’s the translation? Mumsnet?

I have no skin in the game, but agree that Welsh (and English?) boards would even things up and save a lot of confusion around certain subjects.

SilentPanic · 08/07/2021 16:17

Ricki Draig means dragon. Ddraig is the mutated form, which is why Ddraignet is incorrect. Draignet is a brilliant name!

RickiTarr · 08/07/2021 16:18

Ah thanks. Nice name. Smile

DMCWelshcakes · 08/07/2021 19:54

Draignet would be great. I agree it needs to be unmutated though as it'll make my teeth itch forever if it's grammatical bollocks.

Buggerthebotox · 09/07/2021 13:06

Mamsnet? Or is that a bit too mundane?

spiderlight · 09/07/2021 13:18

I like Mamsnet, @Buggerthebotox!

Gassylady · 09/07/2021 21:49

Yes please

Highfive2021 · 09/07/2021 22:46

Fangdango · 20/07/2021 00:16

what's occurring @soniamumsnet? Smile

JustineMumsnet · 20/07/2021 17:17

We'd be happy to give it a go. In general we're trying to consolidate forums rather than add them because we've already got bazillions and it makes navigation a little tricky BUT it's all about usage - if we start it and it's well used we'd be happy to keep it and look to trim elsewhere so... we'll get right onto it and then it's over to you. Diolch for the enthusiasm Dragon Smile

Fangdango · 21/07/2021 21:32

Thank you @MichaelMumsnet

I have tried starting a thread but it only seems to show up in active - Draignet still seems to be empty. Would you mind checking? Sorry if it's just my tech failure.

MichaelMumsnet · 22/07/2021 07:32

Hi @Fandango - yes that's strange, we'll ask the techy ones to take a look.

MichaelMumsnet · 22/07/2021 09:19

Hi all. It's all fixed now. Welcome to Draignet : )
