Are you free to help test drive the new Mumsnet Talk Platform?

JanineMumsnet · 06/07/2021 08:18

Back in May JustineMumsnet made the announcement that later this year we will be re-platforming Mumsnet Talk.

As Justine said, we will be keeping the functionality largely unchanged for now (the aim will be to make updates and add more features once we're on the new platform) but we are planning some limited improvements to the user experience and to some aspects that don't function at all well or where there are large inconsistencies across the desktop and mobile versions of the site.

We are really keen to get Mumsnetters testing this new platform at every stage to ensure we get it right. We now have a working prototype of the new talk platform and over the next few weeks we really want to put this prototype through its paces so we can bring to light any bugs or usability issues.

This is where you come in, if you think you’ve got time over the next few weeks to help us, then we’d love for you to sign up to our testing panel. We are running individual sessions via Zoom - these tests should only take around half an hour. And don't worry, you won't have to turn on your camera!

Please sign up here to take part and we will get back to you to arrange a convenient time.

Thanks

MNHQ

Yes, I'll have a go!

TheGoodEnoughWife · 06/07/2021 08:26

Yep, I'd like to. And have the time.

AuntieStella · 06/07/2021 08:48

As Justine said, we will be keeping the functionality largely unchanged for now

What are the changes that have happened?

I'd give the new version a try.

Done

Largely the changes we have made are cosmetic to make the site more consistent across mobile and desktop.

As the prototype is still in the testing phase, things are still open to change based on feedback we receive, so it wouldn't be useful to list out every change we've made until we are ready to launch.

Thanks for signing up - we will be in touch with more details so you can have a play around with the site very soon and you'll get a feel for what has and hasn't changed.

Yes, I'm happy to help with this

FlibbertyGiblets · 06/07/2021 10:57

Hallo team if I sign up can I have mumsnet classic mobile back after testing, please? ( An ancient crone from when all round here were fields)

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/07/2021 11:44

@JanineMumsnet I'm happy to help BUT I have the old Classic version (desktop) and don't want to lose it, so will that work?

@FlibbertyGiblets and @BoreOfWhabylon it would be good to know what it is about the Mumsnet Classic version you like?

Without going into too much detail, there will be one consistent design across desktop and mobile. For site speed and stability issues it isn't feasible to run multiple design versions at the same time.

But if you join the panel and take part in the sessions, then you'll get to see what the new design is like, and be able to feedback on exactly what it is about the classic version that made it easier for you to use.

@JanineMumsnet for me it's the 1000 posts per page that's the main thing I don't want to lose.

I've filled in the form but accidentally said I didn't want you to contact me by email (clicked the wrong box Blush )

FlibbertyGiblets · 06/07/2021 12:04

Wibble! Plain, very plain, no frills, easy to read, the end. Haha

FlibbertyGiblets · 06/07/2021 12:05

And yes all one page. Cba with pages, no ta.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/07/2021 12:06

Plain is good @FlibbertyGiblets. And I like the MN emoticons. I don't want to lose them either.

FlibbertyGiblets · 06/07/2021 12:11

Thumbs up.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/07/2021 13:29

Oh gosh, I hadn't even thought I might lose the 1000 pages feature! I love that, can't be bothered with constantly re-loading pages. Also the MN emoticons are great, especially the grin.

I tried using the app on my phone and couldn't get on with it at all, so it's desktop version all the way for me.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 06/07/2021 13:49

Signed up!

lurkingdh · 06/07/2021 15:23

Is the signup link broken? It redirects to www.surveymonkey.co.uk/survey-taken/?sm={some massive hash}
for me. Unless it's the same survey you used in the original announcement?

Either way, count me in. I have 20 years of web-based software development experience.

Lougle · 06/07/2021 16:13

Ooh I have completed the sign up form but 1000 posts per page is a must have for me. Can't stand pages.

AuntieStella · 06/07/2021 18:02

I don't want to test if I lose 1000 posts per page.

And I wouldn't support a reduction - if you want consistency, then move all up to the 1000

AuntieStella · 06/07/2021 18:04

Largely the changes we have made are cosmetic to make the site more consistent across mobile and desktop

That's still 'largely'

Why the reticence in saying exactly what the changes are?

ChequerBoard · 06/07/2021 20:04

I'm free! (And have come over all John Inman)

Happy to join in testing, mainly an app user, if that works?

grapewine · 06/07/2021 21:05

Agreed. Please don't take that away!
