Childminders Club? Maybe Please?

KatieMac · 03/11/2004 22:29

As childminders (& often parents) we use this iste a lot and were wondering if (pretty please) we could have a Topic called Childminders club or childminding club.....for us to discuss issues like pricing/advertising/conflict with parents/children/training etc.....I know you have lots of topic - but we think this is different to Going back to work or Childcare topics that exsist......iyswim
Thanks - even if the answer is no

Hello - what are you all plotting????
I do support your idea but won't support any parent bashing. It doesn't do our professional image any good especially when words which may be meant humourously or tongue-in-cheek can so often be read the wrong way by all the great parents on this site who use registered childcare.

KangaMummy · 05/11/2004 22:23

Tech

as you can see we have located lots of childminders

please can we have a club in the club section?

please Tech

KangaMummy · 05/11/2004 22:32

goosey thanks for saying hello,

we are not wanting to be "against" parents but Katiemac and I just thought that as childminders can sometimes be a lonely job, we may benefit from each others experience.

The other points about our job like:
how to get set up in the beginning,
registration,
the inspection process,
training,
how to decide on fees,
training,

If it is a club setting then people wanting advice about starting up and experienced minders can exchange views it will be easier for everyone to find
IYSWIM

Goosey - we aren't parent bashing but if one of us comes accros a situation or problem - then it's likely that another will have come accross it before.

Look at my problem with parking - who would have thought that chalking lines on my drive would encourage my parent to park with consideration for each other

And how about the mums that walk in with muddy shoes - how do you deal with that one....

Hopefully as in other topics pooled knowledge will lead to solutions not agression or attacks....well it would make a change

Mums with muddy shoes????
How about secretly sticking a big blob of wet gum to the underside of your mindees shoes just before handing them back
I understand what you mean kg and kg, and yes I'm sure many people would be interested to hear about how well regulated and how dedicated most childminders really are.
Count me in.

KangaMummy · 05/11/2004 22:40

thanks goosey @ gum

KatieMac · 05/11/2004 22:42

link

If you look here you can see the full stories

Mind you our remarks might have got a bit bitchy occasionally - but when you feel strongly about it you do get a bit stroppy - not nasty just frustrated

amynnixmum · 05/11/2004 23:20

Hi,
haven't read all the posts yet but would love to chat to other childminders. Since i don't do the network thing etc it can be pretty lonely and also i am no longer in contact with any other childminders in my area as most of the ones i was friendly with when i registered have now stopped minding.

KangaMummy · 05/11/2004 23:22

hello amynnixmum welcome to our club

Thanks for replying

KangaMummy · 06/11/2004 00:43

amynnixmum please read this

ssd · 06/11/2004 08:51

KM, I think there is also a c/m called AERO or something like that (seen this other thread re childcare v. v. early this morning

Might be worth trying to contact...

KatieMac · 06/11/2004 09:36

Nope can't use Mac (it's my maiden name)

He's a dance teacher and I suggested DarkDancer but he didn't like it - so I'll keep working on it

Wonder if Tech will notice this (or if the other thread will put him off?)

OP posts:
Copper · 06/11/2004 10:04

I think this is a brilliant idea - not a childminder myself but my kids really benefited from going to a wonderful one - and so many people now don't even consider childminders as an option. Please tech, childminders club would be great idea ...

KatieMac · 06/11/2004 11:00

Thanks for the support Copper......Childminding is becoming more & more professional. It is lovely when people have 'good' stories to relate

nikkim · 06/11/2004 13:51

I am going throught the registration process myself so would welcome this club, not least because I am in a tizz over what I do or don't have to do to my house and I am sure when I have children running through my house I will welcome the support.

KatieMac · 06/11/2004 15:41

How's it going Nikkim - where are you up to......we can give out loads of advise (but get it checked for sanity before using it )
Seriously let us all know if you have any questions....we'll come up with something

OP posts:
KangaMummy · 06/11/2004 15:55

thanks nikkim, copper

I have sent emails to tech and contact us, so we have to wait and see what happens.

KatieMac · 06/11/2004 16:20

Do you think we're being too pushy Kangamummy?

OP posts:
KangaMummy · 06/11/2004 16:24

tigerfairy · 06/11/2004 16:30

It's me - Tigerfairy! Haven't been on here for ages but think its a great idea!

nikkim · 06/11/2004 16:46

I am right at the beginning , done most of the training, child protection , first aid and some general stuff be had to put registration on hold as we have just moved house. Luckily the ladt who lived here before me was also a childminder so I am hoping there isn't much to do.

Hand in my forms for a medical check on monday to get the ball rolling.

KangaMummy · 06/11/2004 16:46

welcome tigerfairy
