Recipe video - constantly appearing

Firs anyone else have a video that appears (recipe containing both chocolate and tomato paste! But that’s besides the point)?

I close it down with the cross in too RHS and it pops back again moments later. It’s on every page and really intrusive.

Can’t see any other threads about this so wondering if just me.

Sorry about this, OP - we can see how this could be a tad annoying.

Could you let us know if this is on the app or the web and which device you are on (ipad, laptop, android phone etc)? Also, could you let us know the browser you are using (Chrome, Safari and the like)?

Once you've got back to us we'll take a look into what might be happening here.

Yes! I have had this continuously, to the point that I no longer want to use mumsnet... or when I do, I have to cover the video with a tissue 😜.

To carolinemumsnet, I use an iPad.

Doobiedooo · 13/08/2020 19:01

Safari

bathorshower · 13/08/2020 19:13

I get it when using the website on Chrome on an Android phone (currently on my laptop; a much better experience).

Yep, me too.. iPad and Safari, same as Doobiedooo @CarolineMumsnet

Flyinggeese · 13/08/2020 21:38

Hi @CarolineMumsnet it’s Safari on an iPhone. Thanks.

Yes same here, on laptop with Microsoft edge. I never thought some sort of chocolate pudding would make me so cross!

Flyinggeese · 13/08/2020 22:01

I know Birthdayhat! I always see the stage of pouring milk over the top of it and it looks a right faff. Also tomato purée in the ingredients...

OP posts:
Doobiedooo · 13/08/2020 22:55

Haha, ditto birthdayhat. My heart sinks every time I pass the video (which is half way down every. single. page)... since there it then is, bottom right. Ug. Chocolate recipe with tomato, and a woman on mute looking enthusiastic, with red lips.

Flyinggeese · 14/08/2020 07:59

HQ please make it stop! Site unusable.

I would also like to know why that recipe is pushed as an "easy weaning recipe"? The ingredients are abysmal. No child under 12 one should be eating that much sugar.

impostersyndrome · 14/08/2020 15:54

@FlyinggeeseI've complained about this too, see here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/3976213-Site-adverts-draining-battery-life. Hopefully Mumsnet will take note of this being a widespread issue.

And @KrakowDawn I couldn't agree more. Dreadful.

LilyMumsnet · 14/08/2020 20:37

We're sorry that you're finding the video pop-ups to be a pain. We understand that a new style of advert can take a while to get used to, but we have included a close option that will stop the advert from playing.

Obviously we do need to experiment with the latest formats that are popular with advertisers to generate revenue to support the site but we're going to keep an eye on the responses and obviously we don't want to plough ahead with anything to spoil users' experience of Mumsnet. NB for now at least these are only showing to logged out users - so you can always log in to avoid.

Flyinggeese · 15/08/2020 09:36

Hi LilyMumsnet thanks for the tip, logging in has stopped it! Great, thanks. Do appreciate the balance needed with commercials on a free to use site.

impostersyndrome · 15/08/2020 13:00

Yes thanks for responding @LilyMumsnet but can I point out that while logging in is a solution, as I and others have said on my other thread linked above, sometimes it’s not practical, or safe, to do so. I hope your ads people take heed, as i believe they’re going to look into whether this is an issue given that quite a few people have complained so far.

Flyinggeese · 15/08/2020 17:12

I didn’t realise this was an ad. Just looks like a recipe video.

OP posts:
impostersyndrome · 15/08/2020 20:33

Yes, I didn’t think it was an ad, but some sort of Mumsnet produced thing, @Flyinggeese, but MNHQ refer to it as such.

Bodoni · 18/08/2020 07:27

This has been driving me mad too - for weeks it was a video with some chocolatey dessert with whipped cream, made me feel a bit sick, now it’s an annoying woman in green wanting to tell me something. Both in the middle of the thread and in the right margin, on every page - clicking on the x only turns it off for that page then it pops up again when I change page. If I shrink the screen, it moves over the thread. I’m relieved logging in removes it but I don’t aways want to log in. Safari on a Macbook Air.

impostersyndrome · 18/08/2020 09:00

Have you seen my thread on this @Bodoni? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/3976213-Site-adverts-draining-battery-life? I hope Mumsnet HQ understand that logging in is not a safe option for many people.

It's a complete pain and way way too repetitive. In a 10 minute browsing session it's appeared 5 times (including in this thread)

You can't close it immediately, and I'M NOT INTERESTED.
