What is the point of this on advanced search ?

Sometimes people like to refine their search and not including certain words can do this. We'll pass your comments over to our developers (would be interesting to know how much it's used).

Isn't it like on a google search when you want to exclude common results that aren't the ones you want by using the minus sign?

It is useful. It means you can weed out unwanted results.

This is a silly example but say you wanted to search for posts about Prince Harry but if you search for Harry you'll get loads of results about Harry Potter so you search for posts that mention Harry but don't include Potter so it excludes those posts from your results

I’ve manage managed to get the mumsnet search to work so now I just use google

Searching such and such Mumsnet.

Always works.

We discovered what the issue was. It looks like it only impacts searches that are 'Title' only. We've got one of our developers looking at it now and should hopefully have a fix later this week.

We'll update everyone here once it's fixed.
