Ancestry advert on Adoption board

Is an advert for Ancestry really appropriate for the adoption board?! People managing the most complex identity and family histories and that’s thrust in their faces when looking for advice and some understanding. Come on Mumsnet that’s just poor.

Are you able to send us a screenshot of the advert at all, and let us know what device and browser you're using?

It was one of the adverts that are rolling that appear after ten threads so I can’t screenshot

I’m on Safari on an iPhone X.

Ancestry ads seem to appear all over the place but it seemed particularly inappropriate for adoption, and also probably fostering and relationships. I would have thought that Mumsnet would have some kind of policy/guidelines for its advertising team to make sure that this doesn’t happen.

Hi @LilyMumsnet of course it’s not doing the same thing now so I have a screenshot of the board which shows where the advert appeared and coincidentally the ad appeared in this thread so I have captured that...

To be clear my issue isn’t technical, it’s the principle of an unsuitable or insensitive advert for the board topic. At my work we have strict content guidelines for advertising and where/when it is placed so we wouldn’t put an ad for luxury cars near content about homelessness, as a crude example.

What's the problem, there are lots of adopted people on ancestry, it's every other one.
have you seen the youtube videos of adopted people finding birth relatives?

We understand this but before directing anything to our ads team, they'll ask for a screenshot, so that they have a visual idea of the sort of thing users are seeing.
