Search by poster gone?

PurpleDaisies · 04/04/2020 15:44

Just tried to find an old post of mine and spotted the search by poster option has gone.

Is this a mistake?

Search by poster gone?

Yes, any post that you post, DOES go into your 'threads I'm watching.' Stop denying it.

No it doesn't.

pleasepleasepleasehelp · 09/04/2020 14:04

@PurpleDaisies Call me whatever names you like, I still stand by my opinion that there is no need for a search for poster function, as the vast majority of the time, it's only used for nefarious reasons, and to try and catch people out, so you can try and make yourself look clever.

But hey ho, you keep denying that all of ya. I can't stop you denying it.

I hope it NEVER returns. Grin

pleasepleasepleasehelp · 09/04/2020 14:05

YES IT DOES go into your threads I am watching @SoupDragon

Unless of course, you have conveniently switched the function off. Wink

PurpleDaisies · 09/04/2020 14:09

please I think you’re a little overinvested in this.

I will summarise the situation again.

Approximately five to ten years ago I made a very nice focaccia using a recipe from the Lakeland catalogue.
I have olives to use up and remembered that recipe.
I looked for it in my recipe stash and realised I had lost it.
I remembered recommending the recipe to someone on here and vaguely remembered posting a picture so thought I could look up that post to find it.
That was when I discovered the search by poster function had disappeared and posted this thread.

I don’t care if you believe me or not. It is hard to take someone who abuses the caps lock seriously.

Oh dear, @pleasepleasepleasehelp. You're one of those posters who thinks it's very unlikely that people use MN for 'nefarious reasons' and therefore no one should have the ability to look up a poster ever, right? Sadly too many do use the site for troll kicks or pervy stories.

I am one of those who likes to see if Miss 'my 6 year old is still in nappies with no tangible reason, let's talk about leakage' or 'tell me I'm not the only one who walks around their garden naked lol' has seemingly just joined for such reasons. If they've been posting since Jesus was a child then I have no reason to comment and can move on. If they joined yesterday and have been posing equally weird shit elsewhere, I can report without an ounce of guilt. Why is that such a bad thing?

SoupDragon · 09/04/2020 14:10

Unless of course, you have conveniently switched the function off

So, you admit that you were talking rubbish when you stated as fact that they go into watched threads. Unsurprisingly.

I'm not sure what the "conveniently" crap is. I turned it off as soon as it was introduced as it was pointless and ridiculous.

Regardless, if threads stayed in "watched" forever, how would you ever find the one thread you wanted amongst hundreds...? If they don't stay forever, how would you find the one thread you wanted...?

SoupDragon · 09/04/2020 14:11

My opinion is that anyone that wants it removed permanently wants this because of nefarious reasons.

PureedSocksAndPants · 09/04/2020 14:12

That wouldn’t have been a NEFARIOUS focaccia would it PurpleDaisies ? ! Wink

BovaryX · 09/04/2020 14:12

My opinion is that anyone that wants it removed permanently wants this because of nefarious reasons

I agree.

pleasepleasepleasehelp · 09/04/2020 14:19

@BovaryX

Well, the anodyne comments about what happened to a useful feature have certainly elicited some forcefully bizarre responses....

Yes indeed. Grin

The reasons SOME posters are coming out with as to why they NEEEEEEED the 'search for poster' function are somewhere between daft, pointless, and somewhat hilarious!

@SoupDragon

I agree that anyone that wants it removed permanently wants this because of nefarious reasons.

PMSL. Nice try. Grin Doesn't make any sense though.

pleasepleasepleasehelp · 09/04/2020 14:21

I'm bored now anyway. I'm off to sunbathe outside.

And say 'good riddance' if you like.

I don't care. Smile

Keep enjoying your utter denial.

BovaryX · 09/04/2020 14:29

Er, the forcefully bizarre comments I was referring to were yours @pleasepleasepleasehelp

MouthBreathingRage · 09/04/2020 14:30

I'm bored now anyway. I'm off to sunbathe outside.

I'm not winning this argument no one asked for, so I'm stomping off to my own back garden where the bumblebees can hear all about how very right I am

There, fixed that for you.

What a bizarre thing though, to have a temper tantrum over someone asking where a long standing function of this forum has gone, trying to make out anyone whose ever used it is some unhinged stalker. Guess this lockdown makes us all bored in different ways.

BovaryX · 09/04/2020 14:33

What a bizarre thing though, to have a temper tantrum over someone asking where a long standing function of this forum has gone

Even in these surreal times, the vehemence of this reaction has made a bizarre impression...

OhNoNoNoNotThatOne · 09/04/2020 14:35

Well that esculated!!
I like AS and regularly look up usernames to have a nosey, especially if something is referenced but not part of the thread or if someone mentions a user and I want to know more about them.

Does being a nosey bugger come under nefarious reasons?

PurpleDaisies · 09/04/2020 14:37

I have to say, this thread hasn’t quite gone the way I expected. Grin

OP posts:
MouthBreathingRage · 09/04/2020 14:44

@PurpleDaisies, I dont think many would expect to be told off by another poster when asking a perfectly reasonable question about the functionality of the site (on Site Stuff no less). I think the lockdown has caused some to get so riled up they'd start an argument in an empty room to be honest.

BovaryX · 09/04/2020 14:48

I have to say, this thread hasn’t quite gone the way I expected

PurpleDaisies
Nope. That was quite an unusual evolution.....

DramaAlpaca · 09/04/2020 16:52

Ooh, just checked and it's back!

@PurpleDaisies we can get back to our rabid stalking now Wink Grin

Roussette · 09/04/2020 16:54

@pleasepleasepleasehelp

For god's sake. Of course I don't remember the name of the poster I typed out the recipe for. But I can remember roughly when and I search back at my posts.

At least own it, and admit that you just want the 'search for a poster' function to try and catch people out, because you think it makes you look clever, when you throw stuff in their face

Stop it now you rude person. You are calling me a liar and I dont take kindly to that one little bit. As I said twice on here, I have only searched a poster once before. I have been here 16 or 17 years, and once done a search on someone so just jog on.

And... 'threads I'm watching' has the capacity of 20 threads, that is all. Your MN might be different but that is mine.

There's something very odd about your posts and your vehement hatred of advanced search by name. I assume you have been caught out like this and that's why you dislike it.

Glad to see you've decided to take a break. I suggest a damp flannel and a lie down and maybe think about not being so rude to other posters in the future.

Roussette · 09/04/2020 16:56

Brilliant! It's back! I probably won't want it for months but it's there if I do

SoupDragon · 09/04/2020 17:21

Excellent! With no scope for rabid, nefarious stalking I had no idea what to do with myself!

SoupDragon · 09/04/2020 17:23

Doesn't make any sense though

Of course it does. The only people who wouldn't want to be able to search by poster name are those who have reason not to want to be searched. It makes just as much sense as people only wanting it for nefarious reasons.

DramaAlpaca · 09/04/2020 17:29

I've just done a bit of searching and reported a couple of posters who I was sure were up to nefarious stuff... you know the usual, dodgy posts with no username history. I'm pleased to report they've been deleted Halo
