Request to MNHQ for feminist board data 2019

Dear lovely @MNHQ.

A year ago you kindly indulged my request for data relating to traffic to the feminist chat board. This was fascinating, and very well received by posters.

Can I prevail upon you for a 2019 annual update please?

Any data relating to visitors to the feminism boards vs visits to the rest of the site would be brilliant. Is feminism increasingly drawing visitors to Mumsnet? Where are the visitors from? Is the feminist board increasing its share of the overall site?
What's the most popular board? What about the ratio of active posters to lurkers, is the profile different for feminist chat to other boards or representative of the forum in general?

You'll decide what data you want to share with us, and probably not what I'm asking for! But I think you might find that it's an entirely positive thing to publicly share the importance and influence of the board and mumsnet in general.

As always, I'm very grateful for any information you kindly provide.

Ta x

Still nothing? With all the trans controversy, I’d expect traffic on the feminist board to be through the roof. Maybe that’s why it’s taking so long to count it all...!
If it does prove to be a major traffic promoter for MN, maybe they could consider facilitating it by easing the censorship?

I find it irritating to have to jump through linguistic hoops to avoid calling a man a man. Though of course, his feelings are so much more important than women’s rights....

Testing.
One, two.
One, two.
Is this thing on?

The latest figures are 246k entrances to the feminism boards in June (compared to 177k in June 2018) which is a 39% increase.

Overall we had 18m entrances to all of Mumsnet this June.

Thanks MichaelMumsnet, that's really interesting, and much appreciated Flowers

do you have the data to hand to answer a couple of follow up questions?

  • how many entrances did you have to all of Mumsnet in June 2018?
  • how many entrances did you have to Chat and AIBU in June 2019 (I believe those are the most heavily used boards?)
  • last year the feminism boards were the 3rd most heavily used boards after Chat and AIBU (I think). Is that still the case?

your transparency is really appreciated!

SophoclesTheFox · 24/07/2019 12:01

That’s really interesting, thank you MichaelMumsnet.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 24/07/2019 12:13

Just gone back and compared to the thread from last year

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/3276312-Would-MNHQ-be-open-to-sharing-some-info-with-us

interestingly it appears that entrances to the site are down

June 2018 26m entrances
June 2019 18m entrances

So if those numbers are correct:

in June 2018 0.7% of the site entrances were via FWR
In June 2019 1.4% of the site entrances were via FWR

crikey

Thanks MNHQ

I was not on MN last summer. I only started looking due to Glinner on Twitter. Then when I got banned started spending more time here. The amazing intelligent women posting made me stay. Thank you for allowing women to have a voice.

picklemepopcorn · 24/07/2019 12:28

Ooh, this is interesting! I have no ability to crunch data myself, but love thinking about other people's analyses.

ArranUpsideDown · 24/07/2019 12:31

As Bernard says, interesting to know if the drop-offs are to AIBU/Chat or widespread.

Crudely, if FWR has gone from 0.7% to 1.4% then FWR traffic is holding steady overall while there has been a substantial loss elsewhere on the site (main site is down to 69% of last year's total).

But Michael's figures for June are very different albeit they may reflect the JY Effect.

It's good that FWR is holding (albeit still tiny overall) despite the loss of so many valued posters.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 24/07/2019 12:33

I would guess that the vast majority of entrances to the site are via active, with plenty of people coming to FWR from there

So I think it’s hard to tell much from these numbers about how many people are reading and posting on FWR

But we can infer that for a lot of people, and an increasing number of people, FWR is the reason they come to Mumsnet, given that that’s how they access the site

SophoclesTheFox · 24/07/2019 18:55

Agree, bernard.

I wonder how my access would register, for example. I tend to use “threads I’m on” to start my man browse and navigate from there, but spend 90% of my time on feminist chat.

OvaHere · 24/07/2019 22:34

Very interesting. I use Safari and it auto saves your most visited as clickable tabs so when I click on MN it takes me straight to FWR so I always start off there even if ( on the odd occasion) I'm heading to another board.

2BthatUnnoticed · 25/07/2019 05:21

@MNHQ thanks for this - very interesting. last year I think you also were able to say no. of unique visitors- is this possible again?

2BthatUnnoticed · 25/07/2019 05:22

(No. of unique visitors to FWR, I mean)
