Accepting Privacy cookies every time I log on?

Is this standard now, every bloody time I want to use MN the privacy thing pops up. I’ve accepted about 6 times and I CBA with it now.

I was starting to think it was my phone! Every single page I click on, the privacy pop up forces me to agree. It's so annoying and tiring

AdoraBell · 10/05/2019 23:29

It’s really annoying.

Again today.

Hi there all

Thanks for getting in touch, and sorry you're having problems. Is there any chance you're using Mumsnet with a browser on private/incognito mode? That can sometimes cause this problem.

fairweathercyclist · 13/06/2019 12:19

I've had this a lot too. Not just MN but other sites. Complete lack of understanding of what the GDPR actually requires.

On the plus side the Daily Fail has now put a cookie wall up that you can't scroll behind, so that stops me reading any of their nonsense as I refuse to accept cookies from them.

I haven’t changed the settings on my devices, so I don’t think it’s the private thing. Also, I don’t get it on other sites, and not every time I use MN. 🤷‍♀️

Hi there AdoraBell,

Private browsing isn't to do with the settings, but can easily be done by accident by opening a different type of window - it might be worth double checking.

Do you have an adblocker installed? That also can sometimes cause this issue.

AdoraBell · 20/06/2019 20:27

No add blocker, nor private browser 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for letting us know, @AdoraBell.
Can you also let us know whether you're using the app, the mobile site or the desktop site? And which device, and version of the OS?
Thank you!

I keep getting it too. It doesn't happen with any other site. I'm using Chrome on desktop not private browsing or incognito. I do have an adblocker. I don't have to turn it off on other sites.
Is MN suggesting we choose between adblocker or constant privacy checklists? I notice that the MN privacy checklist also isn't saving settings either so every time I have to de-select all the permissions.

furtivefeline · 22/06/2019 08:11

I'm getting it too. Only on my phone. Laptop working fine. I do have an adblocker installed on the phone as the ads were covering virtually the whole screen before that and it was just too frustrating/difficult to use the site. Adblocker has been there for ages but yesterday the privacy message started popping up each time and won't even disappear when I click accept. Haven't been able to use MN on phone since yesterday Shock

Welliesandpyjamas · 22/06/2019 08:12

Same here. Very offputting.

Thanks for the further info - we'll raise this, and should have a clearer answer for you all next week. Thanks for your patience!

HebeMumsnet · 26/06/2019 11:45

Morning everyone. We've asked Tech to give us a definitive answer on this and they've come back with some info today.

Apparently the issue will be the adblocker in 99% of cases. If you definitely don't have an adblocker on, drop us a line at the usual address and we'll look into those cases separately.

There are two options for sorting out the issue of the privacy cookies box popping up relentlessly - you can either turn off ad blocker for Mumsnet, or if you don't want to do that, what you'll need to do is contact your ad blocker or look through any help/FAQ documentation you might have to see there's a workaround for this issue within the adblocker you're using.

We use the Quantcast consent management platform and it needs to use a cookie in order to record their preference and the ad blocker prevents the cookie being stored, so unfortunately there's not much we can do at our end but hope that info helps a bit.
