I just hate using the pervy looking one with it's tongue hanging out. If it were a person it would be wearing a dirty mac and reading a copy of Fiesta.

I have always maintained that the emoticon looks like a blow up doll.

CountessDracula · 08/09/2004 16:03

Also until recently we could still use :) ;) and :O which is much easier than all that typing and square brackets. Could we not just have those back then we could still use them as well as the new ones?

coddychops · 08/09/2004 16:08

yes and i HATE THE WINK

Northerner · 08/09/2004 16:09

I want the old ones back too. I don't use the new ones hardly - too much typing involved!

Justine (mumsnet) · 08/09/2004 16:36

Hi guys,
The problem with leaving the old ones up is that they often crept in accidently - often at the most inappropriate times, so we'd rather keep to the new set up. We did ask people if they wanted to replace the new wink with the old one when this was raised a while back and didn't get much response but if you feel strongly about it then we'll definitely replace it...

tamum · 08/09/2004 16:37

Oh, please please do!

CountessDracula · 08/09/2004 16:38

Yes pls!!

Prettybird · 08/09/2004 16:46

The only one that seemed to creep in accidently - and I am sure it was glitch that could be corrected - was if you followed a " mark with a close bracket as in (this quotation") - you would get a winky before (or instead of? - can't remember) the close bracket and in place of the quotation - and sometimes that could be inappropriate.

I like the new icons with the exception of the new winky - and don't mind the "extra" typing, although it's taking a wee while to get used to.

coddychops · 08/09/2004 17:05

yes I raiesd it as the new one looks pervy

SoupDragon · 08/09/2004 17:22

Ok - we'll ask Tech to swap old winkie for new one when he gets a sec. 'Fraid Julia A and Blair might be a bit beyond us though... sorry ks

Tessiebear · 09/09/2004 09:30

KS - LOL

MrsDoolittle · 09/09/2004 10:03

LOL ks! I too would appreciate a wry grin though, I'd use them all the time. I like this new setup, I seem to get it right more often!
What would be really great, though, are the moving ones!!!!

Carrie (mumsnet) · 09/09/2004 17:24

Think you may be waiting a long time for a moving emoticon on mumsnet - there seemed to be a definite feeling against last time we canvassed

Sorry to disappoint!

Flossam · 09/09/2004 22:14

When you say you last canvessed opinion was that among us lot? Cause I'd like more... I up DP's forum with great jealousy with his wide choice of emoticons... Admitedly it is a website for geeks but it's a mens site, so they don't have as many emotions to espress as us women!?!

Flossam · 09/09/2004 22:14

I up? Sorry I eye up!

Demented · 09/09/2004 22:21

I quite like the new winky man! Better use him while I still can!
