I have HAD to start using an adblocker due to the fact that my laptop is terrible and it took about 3 days to load the active page.

Just clocked my ad blocker notification thing and it's blocking TWENTY THREE adverts on one page. I mean, I get this brings in revenue and everything, but is that really necessary? 23?!

I have my Ad blocker turned on and the adds have started appearing in MN talk posts, so frequently the site is almost unusable. MNHQ please please sort this out.

BeachyUmbrella · 06/09/2018 21:24

I've just started getting ads on the app, very odd ones too!

MimsyBorogroves · 06/09/2018 21:44

Loads coming up on the app at the moment.

SophieofShepherdsBush · 06/09/2018 21:46

As of today I'm getting a lot of unmumsnetty ads on the app. And if I scroll without paying attention to fat fingers I keep getting a trailer for a horror film which is cropping up again and again; not what I want having been reading the creepy thread! Can you sort out the ads? Or at least make them not scary!

LIZS · 07/09/2018 10:16

Ads on app here too. Just noticed last few days.

chasinggarlic · 07/09/2018 12:40

I have just started getting ads on the app.

ElfrideSwancourt · 07/09/2018 15:18

I'm getting weird ads on the app too - what happened to Fairy?? Did the TRAs get to them?

NeonMist · 07/09/2018 16:50

Just got on here to start a thread on this issue- just started to get loads of low class gambling ads flashing up in conversations!

So annoying, and I thought I had contracted a virus on my phone, but now several of you have also got these ads.

Are the ads approved by Mumsnet, i.e. Is it a new 'feature'? I really don't want gambling ads or any other ads disrupting my visual field.

Someone mentioned ad-blocker, how do I put it on please? Can someone explain why the ads appear and whether Mumsnet are going to remove them?
Thanks!

SophieofShepherdsBush · 07/09/2018 20:11

Yep low class gambling ads here. Not v mn.

MimsyBorogroves · 07/09/2018 22:12

I'm getting some crap looking shoes on mine. And easyJet.

InfiniteCurve · 07/09/2018 22:52

HmmConfused Jus noticed this,I am having a nice restful pre bedtime browse on MN and I've got nasty garish game ads in my talk threads.
That's just so tacky and distracting.
Why,MN?
(Well,money,obviously - but it's awful.Like ads on a Kindle - what's that about? Way to ruin a great experience.)

NeonMist · 08/09/2018 00:25

infinateCurve I also tend to enjoy a restful -voyeuristic- browse before bedtime, however, this totally spools that. Good way to get rid of my browsing addiction anyway, I will get back to reading (physical) books! I didn't now kindle did ads, that's sickening and sad. Why isn't there more of an uproar at this pollution?

NeonMist · 08/09/2018 00:26

*spoils

itwillbealrightpromise · 08/09/2018 00:29

An example of the kinds of ads I've been getting on the app. V odd and only v recently too...

I know, so tacky ads! Has MN really approved of this? Or has the app been attacked with a virus ?

elspethmcgillicuddy · 08/09/2018 05:53

I'm finding the new ads frustrating too. I keep accidentally clicking at the end of a thread on the app. No answer from MNHQ who are presumably thrilled with the accidental clicks and raking it in. I'm not usually especially cynical but this has really pissed me off.

DianaT1969 · 08/09/2018 11:06

It's ironic that I got to the end of this thread to be greeted by some random ad about biology.
It won't be a hack or unintentional. MN will have signed up to a display ads service and they choose the settings i.e slim banner ad at intervals every 10 posts and larger square ads at the bottom of threads. They could make it less if they wanted. The companies placing the ads will see in time that the clicks on MN aren't of any value - merely thumb clicks - unintentional and we click straight back (high bounce rate in their stats). But there will be other companies behind them using display ads anywhere they can.
With adblockers more effective on desktop devices, they'll be targeting smaller devices and apps that can't be affected by adblockers.

NeonMist · 08/09/2018 11:54

Thanks for the explanation DianaT1969, makes sense. Suspected that adblockers wouldn't work on the App

BloomsButtons · 08/09/2018 12:38

The ads are awful! Especially the huge one at the bottom.

LouMumsnet · 08/09/2018 13:35

Thanks for flagging these up to us, folks. We've let the ad team know.

DianaT1969 · 08/09/2018 13:59

They're getting even more random. What is this one selling??

BloomsButtons · 08/09/2018 15:47

The Nike one changed to something else just after I took the screen shot.

I'm getting ads for fruit machines popping up on he mobile app? Does anyone know if you can block them on an iPhone?

CanYouHearThat · 08/09/2018 20:48

I'm getting loads of the gambling ads too, i'd thought it was 'cos i'd read the gambling thread earlier, but they're bloody annoying as they're really busy flashing things.
