When does a TAAT become a TAAT or a thread in its own right?

Someone starts a thread about England not being supported by Ireland or Scotland fans in the World Cup. Gets deleted for not being 'in the spirit of MN'.

On that thread, there was a lack of knowledge about the geography and political history of the UK and Ireland. So I started a thread about that lack of knowledge. Not about that thread and the World Cup but more about the lack of knowledge. It was an interesting discussion and an important one - given Brexit and devolution.

I know it's your site. But does your TAAT definition stifle discussion from things that stem from other threads?

Agree with Stealth and Mantis. I can see why there is a rule against TAATs, but deleting that one as a TAAT was a bad call (and quite disappointing, considering the points people were making about the general issue - one I've increasingly noticed on here and am getting increasingly annoyed by even though I'm not affected by it).

New thread here!

I began with the question of terminology, since that’s where the last thread was headed.
