Any time there's one unusual thread, which then spawns loads of "me too" kind of threads, then we get requests to MNHQ for yet another new topic, which will then sink into obscurity - like many others - in a few weeks time. Especially since anyone wanting to start an 'AMA' thread, will probably only do it in Chat or AIBU - they won't even think of looking for an AMA topic!

Let the AMAs have their fun for the moment, but I doubt MNHQ have much time to think about setting up another new topic.

After all, they should have their hands full trying to sort out the constant, multiple and very irritating, glitches right now

Plus it's a Saturday evening, so MNHQ won't even see this until some point on Monday - if you're lucky!

I also find them rather bizarre, like they are setting themselves up as being the expert in bleeding everything. You may well be a head teacher/lap dancer/mortician/gay lesbian mongoose...etc but you aren't the only one out there and there isn't only one way of doing things (well apart from the gay lesbian mongoose....there is only one out there and there is only one way of doing it, so that one is ok)

I think MNHQ do like their , Bore. I was talking to the manager of my local pub a couple of weeks ago and he was telling me how much gin has taken off in the last few years. I was tempted to say that I'm sure that MNers must have had something to do with the explosion of the popularity of gin!

As ever with new topics, we do need to see just how many people would be interested. We'll keep an eye on this thread - if there's enough interest, it'll certainly be considered.

i think its something that could work quite well, i know its a reddit thing, but i think its own are would also be good

LornaMumsnet - aren't you worried about the fact that anyone can rock up and say I'm a prostitute/priest/politician...ask me anything, when in fact they're just big ol trolls getting their jollies.

I'd be interested, although I agree with hazey that some kind of screening/verification might be necessary. There are already a few flapping around that whiff slightly of bridges.

I believe Reddit verifies AMA threads, as they seem to trail upcoming ones. Prospective AMA-ers have to apply to mods to get their thread, or something.

Please give them their own section. Then it can be hidden and we don't have to see them all

I think it would be a good idea. I don't even believe half of them, it's just band-wagon jumping and a bit tedious. They're taking over the page though as OPs fall over themselves to desperately join in with the fad. It is all a bit desperate in my opinion.

The crematorium one was interesting and informative; I don't believe the others, haven't posted on them, but I wish they'd go into their own section for those who are interested in them.
